Mealy and Moore Type Finite State Machines: Objective

This document discusses Mealy and Moore type finite state machines. It describes the differences between combinatorial and sequential outputs, and how Moore and Mealy machines are distinguished based on their output and state relationships. The document outlines the simulation of Mealy and Moore circuits using D flip-flops, logic gates, resistors, and capacitors to test their behavior and output based on the input and state transitions.

OBJECTIVE

We have two types of outputs, combinatory where each output depends only on inputs, and
sequential where output depend on inputs and sate of the system.
The clocked sequential circuits are circuits having flip-flops or gated latches for its memory
elements. There is a periodic clock connected to the clock inputs of all the memory elements of
the circuit to synchronize all the internal changes of state, the behavior of this clock is determind
by its input, output, and state of flip-flop through a corresponding state table, and a state diagram
that differentiate if this clock is a mealy or a moore machine, and thus a k-map to conclude the
corresponding statements for our gates to draw the circuit.

HYPOTHESIS AND RULES

After designing, simulating, building, and testing a synchronous finite state system, what is the
overall output ?

EQUIPMENT USED AND ROLE OF EACH

7408 IC : Quad 2-Input AND Gates, This device contains four independent gates each of which
performs the logic AND function.
7432 IC : Quad 2-Input OR Gates , This device contains four independent gates each of which
performs the logic OR function.

A 555 timer  is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and
oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip-
flop element. Derivatives provide two (556) or four (558) timing circuits in one package.

RESISTORS : A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements

electrical resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce
current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate
transmission lines, among other uses ; we are going to use 330kohm and 1kohm resistors .

CAPACITORS(0.02uF,and 1uF capacitors) : a device used to store an electric charge, consisting

of one or more pairs of conductors separated by an insulator.

WIRES : Electrical wiring is an electrical installation of cabling and associated devices such as
switches, distribution boards, sockets and light fittings in a structure.

ISIS Proteus : proprietary software tool suite used primarily for electronic design automatic.

Breadboard : a solderless device for temporary prototype with electronics and test circuit
designs. Most electronic components in electronic circuits can be interconnected by inserting
their leads or terminals into the holes and then making connections through wires where
appropriate.

D-flip flop IC (7474): Type of flip flops that acts as a memory of machines as Finite State
Machines, it tracks the input, making transitions with match those of the input D(stands for data),
stores value that is on the data line.

Logic state : Logic level of finite number of states that a digital signal can inhabit.
