Cassia fistula, commonly known as the golden shower tree, is a deciduous tree that can reach 10 meters in height. It produces long cylindrical pods containing black seeds and bears bright yellow flowers in hanging clusters. The leaves are feather compound with 4-8 pairs of large leaflets. The bark is initially smooth and yellow but becomes rough and dark grey as the tree ages. Cassia fistula has several medicinal and practical uses, including as an ornamental tree, source of dye, treatment for skin diseases and ulcers, and for making charcoal and tool handles. BOTNICAL NAME: Cassia Fistula
OTHER NAME: Bactyrilobium fistula Willd,
Golden Shower Tree
TYPE: Deciduous
HEIGHT: 10m
FRUITS: Long cylindrical pipe 60cm long green
at first turning black. Mature around march-
April of the year
FLOWER: Bright yellow n long dropping
clusters, 5 petals. They are seen in late April by
mid May the rains, always induce more flushes
of flowering that can last into October.
LEAVES: Feather compound up to 45cm long
with 4-8 pairs of large leaflets. They are shed in
early April renewed in May.
BARK: Smooth Yellowish when young,
coarsening (make or become rough) with age
and become ruddy or dark grey with crusty

USE: It is Ornamental tree with irregular
canopy. The bark called Sumari is used as a
tan and yields a red dye. A paste made from
roots is used to cure skin diseases and leptosy.
The leaves are reputed to heal ulcers. It is also
use for posts, tool handles. It makes good
fuelwood and excellent charcoal. Also used as
an anti-inflammatory.

PLANTING AND CARE: Cassia tree care

then it will begin to fill out
