Example of Concrete Mix Design

The document requests a site supervisor to propose a trial mix concrete mixture of grade 30N/mm2 to be tested at 28 days for building a mosque. It provides specifications for the concrete mix such as the type of cement, aggregate sizes and proportions, maximum water-cement ratio, and slump. The supervisor is asked to construct a concrete mix design form using the provided data and calculations for wastage and defective proportions.

A client requests to build a mosque in the residential area of Laman Impian, Bandar Botanic

Klang. As a site supervisor, propose a trial mix concrete mixture of a suitable grade

30N/mm 2 which be tested at 28 days. The trial mix is consisting of nine (9) concrete cubes of

size 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. Fifteen percent (15%) of wastage should be incorporated in

your calculations. Construct the Concrete Mix Design Form using the data below and

Appendix 1-4. (CO1-PO1) (C4)

 Type of cement =Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)

 Proportion of defective = 5% (k=1.64)

 Standard Deviation = 8 N/mm 2

 Slump = 30mm-60mm

 Coarse Aggregate = Crushed

 Fine Aggregate = Uncrushed

 Maximum free water/cement ratio = 0.55

 Maximum aggregate size = 20mm

 Specific gravity of aggregate = 2.60

 Fine aggregate passes the 600µm = 70%
