Assessment noun, assess verb: To discover, judge, or form an opinion on learners’ ability,
achievement, proficiency or progress either formally or informally.
Continuous assessment: A type of assessment which does not involve a final examination. Some
or all of the work that learners do during a course is marked by the teacher on a regular basis
and these marks go into the calculation of the final grade given to learners.
Continuous assessment may include regularly assessing learners’ written work; assessing their
listening, reading and speaking skills; talking to learners; observing them in class; looking at self-
assessments and thinking about learners’ classroom performance.
Diagnostic assessment: A type of assessment aimed at finding out – diagnosing – what language
and skills weaknesses or strengths learners have. Teachers use this information to inform their
future lesson planning. See teacher roles.

Assessment: It refers to the process of gathering and discussing information from diverse sources in
order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand, and can do with their
knowledge as a result of their experiences.
Evaluation: It is the means by which we try to identify which aspects of our teaching are good and
which need to be changed. To do so, we must first identify the right questions and find out how to ask
them.
Teaching: It is a set of events, outside the learners which are designed to support internal process of
learning; Those moments or sessions where we make interventions to help people learn particular
things.
Testing: It is the process through which someone´s knowledge is tested to determine what he or she
has learned; Method of measuring a person's ability or performance in a given domain, Brown (2004).

Assessment: It is a piece of work or an exam done by a student so that the teachers can judge their
level or progress. Is the process of describing, collecting, recording, scoring, and interpreting
information about learning.
Evaluation: It is the process of deciding if the goals of a course have been achieved, or if a course
meets recognized standards.
Teaching: It is the process of attending to people’s needs, experiences and feelings, and intervening so
that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given.
Testing: It is to measure the level of skill or knowledge that has been reached.

Assessment: A systematic approach to collecting information and making inferences about the ability
of a student or the quality or success of a teaching course on the basis of various sources of evidence.
Assessment may be done by test, interview, questionnaire, observation, etc. Students may be tested at
the beginning and again at the end of a course to assess the quality of the teaching on a course.
Evaluation: In general, the systematic gathering of information for purposes of decision making
evaluation may use quantitative methods (e.g. tests), qualitative methods (e.g. observation, ratings),
and value judgements. In language planning, evaluation frequently involves gathering information on
patterns of language use, language ability, and attitudes towards language.
Teaching: Teaching is the art and science of helping others to grow in their knowledge and
understanding.
Testing: Use of tests, or the study of the theory and practice of their use, development, evaluation,
etc.

Assessment: the action or an instance of making a judgment about something : the act of
assessing something.
Assessment: Assessment is the systematic process of documenting and using empirical data to
measure knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs. By taking the assessment, teachers try to
improve the student's path towards learning.
Evaluation: Evaluation focuses on grades and might reflect classroom components other than
course content and mastery level. An evaluation can be used as a final review to gauge the
quality of instruction. It’s product-oriented.
Teaching: teaching is the concerted sharing of knowledge and experience, which is usually
organized within a discipline and, more generally, the provision of stimulus to the psychological
and intellectual growth of a person by another person or artifact.
