Chapter 3

The chapter outlines the methodology used in the study, including the descriptive research design, purposive sampling of 15 registered architects, data collection via a Likert scale questionnaire, and statistical analysis using ranking, frequency, weighted mean, and ANOVA. The questionnaire was validated by the research advisor and distributed to respondents to gather their opinions on the features and weaknesses of architectural interior design.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents and discusses the research design, subject and

respondents of the study, population, sample size, sampling techniques, data gathering

instrument, validity of instruments, data gathering procedures and statistical treatment.

Research Design

To achieve this goal the researchers used the descriptive method since the study

is concerned with existing conditions and practices. According to Salkind, J. (2017),

descriptive research involves collecting of data and answers the questions concerning

the current status of the study. It involves the assessment of attitude. Descriptive

method is typically collected through questionnaire, survey, interview and observation. It

involves the description, recording, analysis, and interpretation of the present nature,

composition or processes of phenomena.

Population and Sample

Regarding the use of sampling in a qualitative descriptive design, virtually any

purposeful sampling technique may be used. The purposive sampling is a sampling

method in which researcher depends on his or her particular decision when selecting

participants of a certain population to contribute in the study. The said study will be able

to apply in such circumstances when someone seeks for needs to reach a targeted

sample quickly and where sampling for proportionality is not the main concern

(Necessary knowledge to conduct a business research, 2018).

Like any other qualitative research design, the goal is to

obtain cases deemed rich in information for saturating the data. Of basic importance is

for researchers to be able to defend their sampling strategies to meet the purposes of

their studies. (Lambert, 2014)

The study includes fifteen (15) registered architects from the different companies.

The questionnaires were dispersed to the chosen architects from different companies

who contribute on the said study. The researchers select the respondents carefully, who

will play a big role on the research. The respondents were selected with motive for the

reason that these people are experienced enough to answer supposed questionnaires.

Research Instrument

The researchers used questionnaire as a research instrument to collect sufficient

facts from the licensed architects of different companies. Questionnaire is a valuable

method of collecting wide range of information from a large number of respondents. The

questionnaire consists of a series of questions that will help to gather indormation

easily. The said data-gathering instrument is compatible to this study for the reason that

it helps the researchers to gain primary type of information from the selected

respondents.

The researcher’s uses likert-scale type of questionnaire and will distributed to the

selected respondents. The statements that is offered will be assessed and determine if

the respondents agree or disagree. It was structured using the Likert format in which it

consists of five (5) point response scales that will tests if the respondents agreed or
disagreed. The research only revolves to the features and

weaknesses of the architectural interior design.

Validation of the Instrument

The first draft of the questionnaire was made and presented to the research

adviser. The second draft of it was improved by integrating there in the corrections and

suggestions given in the first draft. The final copy of the questionnaire was procreated

and distributed personally to the intended respondents. Retrieval was personally done

with one hundred percent retrieval of the questionnaire.

Data Gathering Procedure

The gathering procedure was made possible through distributing the

questionnaires to the respondents. Through this, various opinions of architects are

gathered in order to support the current study. The questions in the questionnaire were

formulated based on the statement of the problem along with information coming from

related studies. Meanwhile, the survey consists of verbal interpretations to determine if

the respondent agreed or disagreed. The respondents are tallied, scored and tabulated

for statistical treatment. The following ranges and verbal interpretation are used.

Option Range Verbal Interpretation

4 3.50 - 4.00 Strongly Agree
3 2.50 -3.49 Agree
2 1.50– 2.49 Disagree
1 1.00– 1.49 Strongly Disagree

Statistical Treatment

The gathered data from the respondents have been tabulated and interpreted.

For a more rational and clear interpretation of data, ranking, frequency, weighted mean
and analysis of variance (ANOVA) used by the researchers.

Ranking. This is used to arrange the rank of Architectural

Interior Design that was assessed by the respondents

Frequency. This is used to determine the ratio of the respondents.

Weighted Mean. This is used to determine the overall average of the

weaknesses of the architectural interior design of a classroom. The formula used is:

x=
∑ fx
n

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This is used to determine statistical differences

between the variance of the features of architectural interior design in a classroom. The

formula used is:

2 ∑ (x−x)2
σ =
N−1
