Electrolyte Fix

This document discusses electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions. It defines electrolyte solutions as solutions that can conduct electricity, and divides them into strong electrolytes, which ionize perfectly, and weak electrolytes, which ionize partially. Non-electrolyte solutions do not conduct electricity as their solutes do not ionize. It provides examples of common strong electrolytes like NaCl and HCl, weak electrolytes like acetic acid and hydrogen cyanide, and non-electrolytes like glucose. It also describes tests to distinguish between electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions based on their ability to conduct electricity and produce gas bubbles during electrolysis.

Electrolyte and Non

electrolyte Solution
WHAT IS THIS?

Can you guess, which one is

electrolyte solution?
Based On Electrical Conductivity, The Solution Is Divided
Into Two Types

a) Electrolyte
Solution
Electrolyte
solutions can be
divided into strong
electrolytes and
weak
electrolytes.

b) Non Electrolyte
Solution

The Product
Strong electrolyte solution
Electrolyte solution is a solution
that can conduct electricity.
Compound ionized perfectly when
dissolved in water

Weak electrolyte solution

Solution that can conduct
electricity. Compound ionized
partially when dissolved in water

Non electrolyt solution

Non electrolyte solution
is a solution that cannot
conduct electricity

STRONG ELECTROLYTE
A strong electrolyte solution is a solution that has a
strong electrical conductivity, because the solute in the
solvent (generally water), entirely turns into ions (alpha
= 1). Compound that classified as strong electrolytes are:
a.Strong acids, such as: HCl, HCl03, H2SO4, HNO3 and
others.
b.Strong bases, namely alkaline and alkaline earth bases,
such as: NaOH, KOH, Ca (OH) 2, Ba (OH) 2 and others.
c.Salts that dissolve easily, such as: NaCl, KI, Al2 (SO4) 3
and others
WEAK ELECTROLYTES
Weak electrolyte solution is a solution with low electrical
b. Weak bases such as: NH4OH, Ni (OH) 2 and others
conductivity with a value of the degree of ionization of:
c. Salts that are difficult to dissolve, such as: AgCl, O <alpha <1. Compound that classified as weak
CaCrO4, PbI2 and others electrolytes:
a. Weak acids, such as: CH3COOH, HCN, H2CO3, H2S
and others

Test the lights

Electrical conductivity (a). Electrolyte solution ⇒ produces
(a). Electrolyte solution ⇒ if dissolved both bright and dim lights, if the lamp is
in water substances can conduct not lit but there are still gas bubbles
electrical current then it is still included as an electrolyte
solution with weak electrical
(b). Non-electrolyte solution ⇒ if conductivity
dissolved in water the substance
cannot conduct electricity (b). Non electrolyte solution ⇒ The lamp
does not turn on

Ionization in water
Test gas bubbles on both
(a). Electrolyte solution - the solute electrodes
can be ionized in whole or in part in (a). Electrolyte solution ⇒ produces gas
a water solvent bubbles
(b). Non-electrolyte solution - the (b), Non-electrolyte solution ⇒ does not
solute cannot be ionized in a water produce gas bubbles
