Explain
Also, since the buoyancy factor is available, you can better plan for what you expect that you may have, and see what
pipe will be required for particular drilling situations.
CALCULATION SHEET
The top block on the calculation sheet is mainly designed to give you the answers that you are looking for. It not only tells
you what is your maximum Weight Indicator pull, but it automatically tells you what specific pipe is being limited and the
pull exerted on it. For planing purposes, the calculated buoyancy and mud weight have been added. This will enable you
to see what weight you will have in any particular section of the hole, if the Pipe Section is filled out with what you expect
to have.
INFORMATION BOXES
The Size/Grade/Weight has a Drop Down Box for you to specify what pipe you have in the hole. Fill in the length of the
drill pipe in the Footage Section. In the Tensile Strength Section their is a Button to select whether the Drill Pipe Class is
New or Premium. Once you have selected that, you then have the opportunity to select the percentage that you feel the
Drill Pipe is good for, in respect to its condition and age. Everything else in these boxes are calculated automatically.
The Drill Collar Section contains only the size and I.D. in order to determine the weight per foot. BHA weight is calculated
when you fill in footage.
EXAMPLE
TD of Well - 17296'
Block Weight - 70,000 #
Drill Pipe - S 135 19.5# 10593' } All calculations should be at
Drill Pipe - G 105 19.5# 5754' } 100% premium pipe.
HWDP- 5" HWDP 831' }
Drill Collars - 6½" X 2-13/16 118'
Answer:
After the information is filled in, you find that your 5" S-135 19.5# Drill Pipe appears in the second box down from the top.
It shows that this pipe is your limitation on Over Pull and is limited to 143,406#.
Maximum on the Weight Indicator will be 630,760#. With a 13.2# mud weight, your string will weigh 333,246#.
