When I close my eyes at night and allow my thoughts to drift to all the possibilities and
hopes I have for the future, there’s one constant. I picture myself in a classroom that I spent
hours adorning with my favorite posters, teaching a classroom of different yet alike students.
These students could not be further different, but they are all learning together, experiencing
many important milestones together. There is something beautiful about being able to give
students the chance to have a second family and other support system that they know they can
rely on when times get rough. I seem my family teasing me for choosing a lower paying job, but
I also see them being filled with pride and respect because I made the choice to do something
that I truly love with my life. Some of my students don’t speak English as their first language,
and some come from low-income households that could possibly limit their educational
experiences outside of the classroom. And even still, no matter what differences these students
have, their uniqueness flows throughout the classroom and embraces learning.
Prior to taking the VTFT course, I had an inkling of an idea of where my passions in life
lie. I knew that I love working with and around children, but I didn’t necessarily know where I
could apply that in my life. I was torn between all the possibilities of what life could be, that I
felt overwhelmed even thinking about the future. After taking VTFT, I have a better
understanding of my goals and passions in life. Rather than feeling anxious about what my future
could look like, I feel excited! Through practicing reading children's books and observing
different elementary age groups in a classroom setting, I have found something that I can picture
advocates for their learning is so largely ingrained in me. My passion for education and a
dedication to shaping the lives of my students is what would keep me going. I want to teach
others about the importance of education so they too can prosper. As a future educator, I am
committed to helping my students succeed, achieve more, and continue onto higher education.
Every child should be given the opportunity to showcase their strengths and follow their dreams.
If I could even play a tiny part in helping them realize their own potential, that would be more
I would preferably work at a low income school, as these are often the schools that lack
necessary resources. I hope to be somebody my students can rely on and be inspired by. No
matter how many bad days I have or how many times I want to reconsider teaching, I just think
of what is to come in the future. One’s educators have a profound effect on them, as can be seen
throughout the rest of their life. I hope to be able to be an educator that can positively affect a
multitude of students.
