INTRODUCTION
Electricity requires an electric path to flow and there are many conducting
materials used for this purpose. There are many semi conducting materials
which are used to reduce the voltage and also drop the current flow.
Wiring materials
Conducting materials
Insulating materials
Semiconductor materials
Conducting Material
(a) Copper
It is a good conductor of electricity. It is used in wiring materials in cables.
Its has low resistance and is used for conduction of electricity at high,
medium and low voltage
(b)Aluminium
It is light weight and cheaper in comparison to copper. Therefore, this type
of conducting material is mostly used in electrical wiring. It is silvery–
white in colour and it has a soft texture.
Insulating Materials
Insulating materials are used for insulating purpose. These types of materials
are bad conductors of current. For example rubber, paper, mica, wood, glass
and cotton.

ii. Wiring in concealed installed conduit to achieve desired electrical
sub-circuits for the given electrical and HVAC layout.
iii. iii. Installation of and termination of wiring to light fixtures, power
outlets, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, switches, dimmers, regulators, AC
out-lets, geysers etc (whichever applicable as per technical
specifications, drawings, site conditions and bill of quantity).
iv. Installation of mains power cables form utility LV/HV take-off
terminals of electricity authority (or the sub-station) to the main
panel/distribution board.
v. Fabrication and fixing of cable trays if applicable.
Samples:
As-Installed Drawings
After all tests on the completed installation have been approved, the contractor
shall submit three copies along with the original set of as-installed Electrical
and HVAC Drawings in spiral-bound covers for subsequent maintenance and
operation. These shall clearly indicate: a. Conduit runs / route and sizes with

the number and size of cables enclosed in the conduit accessories such as pull
boxes, outlets etc.; b. Distribution patterns and circuits in main and sub-main
and distribution boards/boxes; c. Location of earth stations and conductors; d.
Location of all electrical and HVAC appliances, equipment and components;
underground and over ground cable routes, sizes, cable trays and ducts
provided.
Wirings
(a) All final sub circuit shall be single core (preferably single stranded) with
high conductivity copper conductor and 660 Volt insulation in strict
accordance with NBC).
(b) All cables and wires shall be delivered to the site with the Maker's Seals
and Labels intact.
(c) All wire and cable for feeders, sub-feeders, control and branch circuit shall
be color-coded. If coding is not possible such as short run of heavy feed cables,
painting the ends of the cables for color coding or tagging will be permitted.
(d) The following color code shall be maintained for all final sub-circuit, sub-
circuit, sub-mains and mains:
Phase R Red
Phase Y Yellow
Phase B Blue
Neutral N Black
Earth E Green
Switch runs from the light fittings shall be given a distinctive color White.
(e) Wiring to light points, fan point and call bell points shall be done with multi
stranded copper wire of specified size or specified in BOQ. The wiring of light
and fan points shall be done form each points to switch to junction box to
nominated DB.
(f) The light, fan and power points wirings work includes all the required
materials (wires, metal boxes for switches, junction boxes, conduits, circulars,
screws, jointing and insulating materials, fan hooks, earthing materials, ceiling

rose, blank plates and all required accessories) , labors, upto testing and
commissioning.
(h) Each power sub-circuit should normally be restricted to 2000 watts. There
shall not be more than two outlets on each sub circuit in any case. A single
outlet of capacity 3000 watts shall be in each kitchen unit of each block.
a) Pendant Tube pendant shall comprise a dome cover and a biscuit ring and a
piece of screwed steel conduit of suitable length to give the required
mounting height of the luminaire. Plain pendant shall comprise a ceiling
rose and a cord-grip lampholder connected by a flexible cord having a
suitable length to give the required mounting height of the lamp shade.
b) Luminaire Mounted on Pattress When a luminaire is not provided with
facility for a surface cable entry, the luminaire shall be mounted on pattress.
The cable shall then enter the luminaire from the rear through a slot and a
hole formed in the pattress.
c) Ceiling Rose Ceiling rose shall not be used for the attachment of more than
one outgoing flexible cord or cable unless it is specially designed for
multiple pendants.
d) Cable in Enclosed Luminaire Cables within an enclosed type luminaire
shall be of heat resistant type. Cables entering the luminaire shall be
protected by heat resistant insulating sleeves. The sleeves within the
luminaire shall be extended to a distance of 150mm outside the luminaire.
WALL-MOUNTED FAN
EXHAUST FAN

exhausted air through a fume cupboard, the fan shall be ducted to the fume
cupboard by means of a pipe made of low smoke emission and halogen free
PVC and of suitable size and length.
Scope This Sub-section covers the conduit and trunking installation for
manual/automatic fire alarm systems and other fire service installations.
The installation shall be carried out and completed to the standard called for
in the relevant sections of the latest edition of the General Specification for
Fire Service Installations in Government Buildings, Hong Kong.
Conduit and Trunking Systems Conduits and trunking for fire service
installations shall be of steel, complying with the relevant clauses in Section
B1 of this General Specification. Conduits for fire service installations shall
be completely separated from those for all other services. Where trunking
system is used, a separate channel shall be used exclusively for fire service
wiring. Conduits and trunking shall be routed and installed in such a way as
to give maximum protection against mechanical damage. Where it is
unavoidable to run conduits or trunking for fire service installations across
other conduits, water pipes, air conditioning ducts, etc., they shall be
installed first and fixed closest to the structure. The routes shall also avoid
areas of high fire risk such as lift wells, open staircases and unenclosed
vertical shafts.

Electrical Equipment Selection
Call bell pushes for indoor use shall be of flush pattern with white or ivory
colour front plate.
Call bell pushes for outdoor use, or for areas where they may be subjected
to rain or water, shall be weatherproof.
Conduits for Broadcast Reception System shall be of steel, not smaller than
25mm in diameter unless otherwise specified, and shall be installed
generally in accordance with Section B1. They shall be kept clear of power
and telephone conduits and shall be arranged to cross them at right angles
whenever possible. Bends shall have an internal radius of not less than
115mm. Draw-in boxes shall be provided at intervals of not exceeding 6
metres and at all 90° change of direction.
