Engineering Fracture Mechanics Syllabus

This document outlines an engineering fracture mechanics course. The course aims to teach students about cracked components that fail under static and fatigue loads. It covers topics like elastic deformation, plastic deformation, the stress intensity factor, stationary cracks under static loading, energy balance and crack growth, fatigue crack growth curves, and applications of fracture mechanics like mixed mode fractures. The course has 5 units and 45 total contact hours. Upon completing the course, students will be able to understand solid mechanics elements, design cracked components under static loads, apply crack growth laws, and describe crack initiation under thermal loads.
