Ophthalmic Dispensing Assignment

The document contains solutions to two questions regarding prismatic effect and base orientation of lenses. For the first question, the decentration of 3mm for each lens results in a base-in prismatic effect of -1.5 prism diopters for the right lens and -1.95 prism diopters for the left lens. The total prismatic effect as a whole is -3.45 prism diopters base in. For the second question, a decentration of 4mm for each lens results in a base-down prismatic effect of 2.8 prism diopters for the right lens and 2.7 prism diopters for the left lens. The total prismatic effect as a

Question # 1
Find prismatic effect with the base orientation as a whole and also of
individual lens.
Rx: OD=-5.00 DS
OS=-6.50 DS
Glasses p.d.=70mm and patient p.d.=64mm

Sol:
Decentration= 70mm-64mm/2
=6/2 = 3 mm
3mm for each lens it is converted into cm so,
3mm/10=0.3 cm
Prismatic effect of individual lens:
OD(p)=( 0.3)( -5.00)
Od= -1.5 prism diopter BI OS
(p)= (0.3)( -6.50)
Os= -1.95 prism diopter BI
Prismatic effect as a whole:
Because both are base in so they are added to have value of as a whole. As
awhole or net prismatic effect= (-1.5)+( -1.95)= -1.5 -1.95
= -3.45 prism diopter Base In. Ans.
Question # 2
Find prismatic effect and base orientation of as a whole and also for
individual lens.
Rx. OD=+7.00 DS
OS=+6.75 DS
OC Height requested=20 mm OC Height
made =16mm

Sol:
1st of all find decentration.
= 20mm-16mm
= 4mm
4mm decentration for individual lens
Converted into cm so,
4mm=0.4 cm
Now find prismatic effect of individual lens
OD(p)=(0.4)(+7.00DS)
=2.8 prism diopters BD
OS(p)=(0.4)(+6.75DS)
=2.7 prism diopter BD
Now for as a whole add both values
As a whole(p)or net prismatic effect = (+2.8)+(+2.7)
=5.5 prism diopters Base down.
