The following tests require special handling

1 hour Glucose Tolerance Give patient 50 grams of Glucola


2 hour Glucose Tolerance Give patient 75 grams Glucola
3 hour to 6 hr Glucose Give patient 100 grams of Glucola
Tolerance
Draw SST and give to courier to deliver to the laboratory ASAP. Make

Draw Green top (Sodium Heparin) and place on slurry ice. Give to

Draw two (2) GM1 Vacuette and discard first sample. Tube MUST be

Folate Protect from light during collection and delivery to laboratory.
Fractionated Catecholamines Collect on ice.
Hemoglobin Evaluation Draw EDTA tube and give to courier to deliver to laboratory ASAP
Hepatitis C Genotype Draw 1 (10mL) lavender top tube.
Hepatitis C Virus RNA Draw 1 (10mL) lavender top tube.

HIV-1 RNA (Quant) by Real Draw 1 (10mL) lavender top tube.
time PCR
Ionized Calcium DO NOT open tube.
Lactose Tolerance Give children 25 grams and adult 50 g of LacTest Solution.
Metanephrines, plasma Collect on ice
Draw two (2) GM1 Vacuette and discard first sample. Tube MUST be

times immediately after drawing.
Collect two (2) chilled EDTA and place on ice immediately. Give

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) Protect from light during collection and delivery.

NT-proBNP Deliver to laboratory ASAP.
RAST Test Draw large ten (10) mL SST for each profile.

NOTE:
1. Certain analytes must be preserved prior to analysis by keeping the specimen chilled. To ensure accurate
results of such specimens, transport them in ice slurry. i.e. ACTH, Acetone, Angiostensin Converting
Enzyme (ACE), Blood Ammonia, Catecholamines, Free Fatty Acids, Lactic Acid, Pyruvate, Renin Activity.
2. Transport specimens intended for light-sensitive analyte testing in foil wrapping. i.e. Bilirubin, Erythrocyte
Protophorphyrin, Carotene.
3. Upon receipt of specimens, all laboratory department/section personnel must follow specific test handling,
processing, testing and reporting of test result(s) procedure.
