2. THE CURRIMAO SEAPORT
The Currimao Seaport which is among the principal port of entries in Ilocos Region
designed to be further upgraded to accommodate large vessels.
The Port of Currimao is a principal port of entry, open for both foreign and domestic trade.
The nearly L-shaped pier is of reinforced concrete, extending northwesterly along its 210-
meter pier approach. Major cargoes handled in the port are fertilizer, general cargoes,
feldspar, petroleum products, cement, heavy equipment, construction materials and
transshipment cargoes.
Location: Lat 170-59’N and Long 1200-29’E southwest side of the province
and situated at the northwestern side of Luzon Island.

2. STRENGTHENING THE PROVINCIAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
BOARD

o Provide the necessary logistical and operational support to
component city and municipalities;
o Recommend measures to prevent pollution for the management,
protection, development, utilization, rehabilitation and
preservation of the environment;
o Intensify linkages with funding agencies or environmental
organizations, local and foreign, to support the activities
specified in the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan;
o Conduct continuing assessment among the barangays of the
municipalities in the province as well as the component city to
unravel the problems encountered in the implementation of the
provisions under RA 9003. Results of which shall be used as
bases in the formulation of the local solid waste management
plan;
o Coordinate the efforts of component city and municipalities in the
implementation of the Provincial Solid Waste Management
Plan;
o Develop and appropriate incentive scheme as an integral
component of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan;
o Convene Joint Meetings of the Provincial, City and Municipal
Integrated Waste Management Boards at least every quarter
for purposes of integrating, synchronizing, monitoring and
evaluating the development and the extent of implementation
of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan;
o Represent any of the component city or municipality in
coordinating resource and operational requirements with
agencies of the national government;
o Oversee the strict implementation of the Solid Waste Management
Plan;
o Review every two (2) years or as the need arises, the Provincial
Integrated Waste Management Plan for purposes of ensuring
its sustainability, viability, effectiveness and relevance in
relation to local and international developments in the field of
solid waste management;
o Allow the clustering of the component city and municipalities to
solve common solid waste management problems;
o Call on any concerned agency or sector as it may deem necessary
for support or other appropriate action; and
o To assign a committee among its members to facilitate the
identification of researchable areas in coordination with the
academe, non-governmental organizations and other
government institutions so as to provide data necessary for
decision making/planning.
