Unit 5 Project Worksheet Notes

IT’S A VERY DIFFERENT CULTURE.

Aim: Give Ss practice describing cultural expectations.


Preparation: Make one copy of the worksheet for every group.
Materials: Colored pencils or markers (optional)

Plan Prepare
■ Divide the class into small groups. ■ Explain the task. Each group of Ss writes a journal
■ Give each group a worksheet. from this person’s perspective. Encourage Ss to use
■ Ask: “Do you know anyone who moved here from photos, draw pictures, or include souvenirs to make
another country or who has lived overseas?” Elicit the entries more interesting. If necessary, refer Ss
answers. to the Reading on page 35 of the Student’s Book.
■ Each group of Ss chooses a person with experience ■ Option: Ss write a blog and add photos to it.

questions about the experience.

GROUP WORK Write a journal from this person’s perspective. Each student writes at
least one entry describing the person’s thoughts and feelings. Draw pictures or
include souvenirs of interesting events. Be creative!

Present
CLASS ACTIVITY Share your journal with the class. Explain the significance of the
pictures and mementos.

AUGUST 4TH
Today was one of the best days I’ve spent here! I went to a local
dance performance with a few friends from class. Usually, you
aren’t supposed to take pictures in the theater, but they let
me take a picture because it was an outside performance.
They were wearing such beautiful regional costumes!
