Video: Watch The and Answer The Questions Below

The document provides a summary of the main components and functions of the nervous system. It outlines that the nervous system is made up of neurons, which bundle together to form nerves. The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord and is responsible for analyzing sensory input. The peripheral nervous system includes the somatic and automatic systems and has afferent neurons that carry signals to the central nervous system and efferent neurons that carry signals away. The automatic system contains the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions which work to balance stress responses.

2 Nervous System Crash Course

Watch the v ideo and answer the questions below.

1. Brain nerves and spinal cord made up of what kind of cell not found anywhere else in the body?

Neurons

2. Neurons bundled together to form what?

Nerves

3. What are the two main departments?

The central and peripheral systems

4. What is the central nervous system consists of and what is it responsible for?

The brain and spinal cord. It is responsible for analyzing and interpreting all of the data outside of the
nervous system

5. What do afferent systems do?

They carry things to a central point

6. What do efferent systems do?

They carry things away from a central point

7. In the peripheral nervous system afferent neurons are called what?

Sensory
8. What are efferent neurons called in the peripheral nervous system?

Motor

9. The peripheral nervous system is made up of what two other nervous systems and want do they do?

Somatic nervous system- controls things you are thinking about doing
Automatic nervous system- drive thins to your nervous system that your body doesn’t think about

10. Autonomic system has two divisions what are they and what do they do?

Sympathetic division- responsible for stress

Parasympathetic division- responsible for revealing the stress

11. Where are dendrites located and what is their job?

Coming off the cell body. They receive signals.

12. What is an axon and what is its job?

“Tail” of the cell. Sends signals

13. What is myelin?

A fatty material. Insults the axons.

14. What is the purpose of the nodes of ranvier?

The signal jumps from node to node, causing the signal to travel faster

15. What is a synapse and what is its purpose?

Is where the axon meets another nerve cell.
