MICROSOFT WORDPAD

WordPad It is a powerful tool for creating basic word-processing document
such as letters/memos, poems,,reports,,resume, essays, songs etc.

It is a WYSIWYG (What You See is what you Get) program, whatever you
type in your computer is how it will be printed.

Ways on how to open MS Word


1. Using the icon double click the icon
2. Using stat All Programs MS Word
3. Using start Search Programs and Files

Parts of MS word Screen


1. Application Icon – This is the icon beside the quick access toolbar. When
clicked it displays a menu containing the commands used for controlling the
window’s appearance.
2. Quick Access Toolbar - commands that are most often used can be found
here. You can modify and choose any command you want to add by clicking
the command.
3. Title Bar - found at the top of the window which indicates the name of the
program and the name of the document.
4. Control Button - Located on the title bar and consist of the following:
a) Minimize button – this turns the window into a button on the
taskbar.
b) Maximize button – this makes the window fill the entire
screen.
c) Close button – this closes or exits the application.
5. Word Pad Button - this contains menus of commands that you can use.
6. Tabs -part of the WordPad window that shows a set of commands.
7. Ribbon - when clicked, set commands will be displayed in the ribbon. The
strip across the top of the window that shows what the program can do –
with choices, displayed in groups, in open rather than in menus.
8. Cursor -shows you where the text will appear when you start typing.
9. Zooms Slider - It lets you change the size of view for better vision. You may
increase or decrease the zoom level.

Font Group List

 Font - Change the font

 Font Size – Changing the Font Size

 Grow Font – Increase the Font Size

 Shrink Font – Decrease the font size

 Change Case – Change all the selecting text into different case

 Clear Formatting- Clear the formatting from the selection, leaving only Plain
text

 Bold – Make the selected text bold

 Italic – Italicized the selected text

 Underline – Underline the selected text

 Strikethrough- Draw a line through the middle of the Text

 Subscript- Create a small letter below the text base line.

 Superscript- Create a letter above the line.

 Highlight- Make text look like it was marked with highlighter pen.

 Font Color- Change the text color.

Paragraph Group
 Bullets - Start bulleted list

 Numbering – Start a numbered list.

 Left align – align text to the left.

 Center – center text.

 Right align- align text to the right.

 Justify –Align text both left and right margin.

 Line Spacing – change the spacing between lines of the text.

 Shading – color background behind the selected text or paragraph.

 Draw tables- Create tables and borders.

 Decrease Indent –Decrease the indent level of the paragraph.

 Increase Indent- Increase the level of the paragraph.

 Sort –Alphabetize there selected text or sort numerical data.

 Show and Hide- Show paragraph marks and other hidden formatting
symbol.

 NORMAL No Spacing

Editing Group
 Find – Find text and other content on the document.
 Replace - Replace text in the document.

 Select- select text or objects in the document.

Editing

Red Wave = Wrong spelling or not in the dictionary.


Green Wave=Over spacing or wrong grammar.
Thesaurus=Dictionary name of computer

Clipboard Group
 Cut –Cut the selection and put it on the clipboard. Use to transferring data

 Copy- Copy the selection and put it on the clipboard. For multiplying

 Paste-paste the content of the clipboard

 Format painter- Copy formatting from one place and apply it on the other.

 Open - To open save document.
 Save – to another file name or updating document.
 Quick print- no to customized and change
 Print Preview and Print- to the print document and to view the down.

 Table-Insert or draw a table into the document.

 Word Art- Insert Decorative text on your document.

 Drop Cap- Create a large capital letter at the beginning of the paragraph

Symbol Group

 Insert Symbol- Insert symbols that are not on your keyboard.

 Save- For storing and updating documents.

 Save As- For another filename.

 Open –to open saved document.


 Close – Close the open documents

 Recent- Its contains the recent open files

Page Setup Group

 Margins- Select the margin sizes for the entire documents

 Orientation –Switch the pages between portraits and landscapes layout.

 Paper size- choose paper size for current selection

 Columns –Split text into word or more columns

Pages Background Group

 Watermark- Insert ghosted text behind the content of the page.

 Page Color- Choose color for the background of the page.

 Page Borders- Add or change the border around the page

Common tasks in Microsoft Office Word

Create a nonbreaking space. - CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR

Create a nonbreaking hyphen. - CTRL+HYPHEN

Make letters bold. - CTRL+B


Make letters italic. - CTRL+I

Make letters underline. - CTRL+U

Decrease font size one value. - CTRL+SHIFT+<

Increase font size one value. - CTRL+SHIFT+>
