ENTOPTIC-PHENOMENON Wih Borders

This document discusses entoptic phenomenon, which refers to visual events that can be observed from inside the eye. It provides examples of structures within the eye that can be seen using entoptic phenomenon, such as the cornea, retina, vitreous, macula, and retinal blood vessels. Early scientists used entoptic phenomenon to study the internal structures of the human eye and detect any opacities. The document outlines intended learning outcomes and lists materials needed to observe different entoptic phenomena in a laboratory setting. Procedures for observing phenomena involving things like metallic foil, flashlights, filters, and lenses are described.

EXERCISE 6

ENTOPTIC PHENOMENON

Introduction:

Entopic Phenomenon came from a Greek word ENT means “with in”, Optic means the eye and
phenomenon means any event that is observable. Hence we can make a definition of Entoptic
Phenomena as an event that is observable with in the eye or inside the eye.

Entoptic Phenomenon can simply give you a visual appearance of the eye itself from the inside, certain
parts can be observe like the cornea, retina, vitreous , macula and retinal blood vessels. This
phenomenon has been used by early scientists like Donders, to observe the underlying structures of the
human eye, to detect any opacity or simply understand how the eye structures works.

Eyescope and iridoscope were some of the instruments that were invented further in the early
centuries to investigate the inside of the eye in relation to entoptic phenomenon. Nowadays
sophisticated instruments and advanced technologies can give better analysis and study about the inside
of the eye. Disadvantage using this phenomenon is that it is based on a subjective response of a person
w/c may vary from others.

In order for some phenomenon to be observe tools & gadgets will be needed.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

1. Observe the different Entoptic phenomenon using some methods and techniques.

2. Identify the structures being observe and its clinical uses.

3. Illustrate observation in each phenomenon.

Materials:

1. Metallic foil (1 ft.)

2. Flashlight or any portable light w/ 1 point source

3. Penlight and filter paper(red and blue)

4. Matte finished tape

5. Illuminated screen (ipads, laptops or o phone w/ large screen will do)

6. Magnifier or +10,and up trial lens

7. Pinhole card or trial lens pinhole

8. Polarized lens

Procedure:

To be discuss in the laboratory class.
