Vocabulary words
Rotation – The movement of the planet on its axis.
Meteors – a small body of matter from outer space that enters the earth's
atmosphere, becoming incandescent as a result of friction and appearing as a
streak of light.
Asteroids – Small planets that revolve around the sun
Space – The sky above and beyond
Axis- is a real or imaginary line on which something rotates
Revolution – a movement of the planet around the sun
Gravity- magnetic pull of the planet
Orbits- Imaginary path ways where planets move as they move around the
sun.

- The Solar system

- The Sun is at the center of the solar system. Planets revolve around the
sun. They also rotates on their own axis.

THE EIGHT PLANETS

1. Mercury
- The smallest planet
- Nearest planet to the sun
- Hot planet

2. Venus
- The twin planet of earth
- Second nearest planet to the sun
- The hottest planet because of the thick clouds of gasses

3. Earth
- The planet where we live
- The third planet
- The only planet that can support life

4. Mars
- Also called the red planet
- Fourth planet from the sun

5. Jupiter
- The fifth planet from the sun
- The largest planet

6. Saturn
- The most beautiful planet
- The sixth planet from the sun
- The ringed planet

7. Uranus
- The seventh planet from the sun
- Very cold planet
- The twin planet of Neptune

8. Neptune
- Eight planet from the sun
- Very cold planet
- The twin planet of Uranus

THE SUN
- The biggest star
- Big ball of hot gases
- Gives of light
- Supports life on Earth.

- Effect of Sun to the people

- We can dry our clothes immediately when the sun shines.

- People go to the beach during summer. They would like to stay in the
water to feel cold. But they also notice that the air, land, and water
become warm at noon.

- Hoe does the sun support life on Earth?

- The sun helps the to make their food. The plants are eaten by animals.
Some plants and animals are eaten by man.

- Sun is the primary sources or light and energy needed by the plants,
animals and other living things.
- In some ways sun, can also bring harm. Excessive heat coming from the
sun, can cause death to plants, fishes and other animals.

- What happens to the people when the sun is at its hottest?

- Some people get sick. Some people even die. In some parts of the Earth,
people die when heat waves strike. This happens when the heat of the
sun becomes too much for the people to bear. People cannot stand the
heat. Air conditioners help a lot during these times. You feel cold inside an
air conditioned room. The only problem with air conditioners is the kind of
gas that comes out of it. This gas can destroy the Ozone layer. Ozone
layer serves as Earth’s umbrella. It protects earth from harmful rays of the
sun. When the ozone layer is destroyed, Earth will become even hotter. In
some parts of the Earth, the ozone layer is heavily damaged. This is the
reason why Earth can be so warm. We must start helping to repair the
umbrella of Earth.

- Ways to repair the ozone layer

1. Keep you surroundings clean.


2. Practice proper waste disposal.
3. Plants more trees. Trees give off oxygen that humans and animals
need to live. They keep the surroundings cool.
4. Stop using disposable containers. They add up to our millions of
garbage. Use reusable containers instead.
5. Avoid burning plastics
6. Always clean your car

- Why we experienced day and night?


- The sun shines on Earth all the time. It does not hide or sleep. It does not
even move. It is the Earth that moves. As Earth moves, only the part that
faces the sun receives the light. It is daytime on that part. The other part of
the Earth is dark. It is nighttime on that part.
- We know that Earth is a sphere, not perfectly round. When you focus the
light on a round object, only one side will be lightened. The other side
remains so dark. So, as the Earth rotates, the lighted part becomes dark.
The dark part becomes lighted. The lighted side of Earth is daytime and
dark side is nighttime. It is the rotation of the Earth that causes day and
night.
- There are parts of the Earth that receives very little amount of light. They
are North and South poles. It is very cold in these places. Large icebergs
and snow can be found there. Sadly, these icebergs are beginning to melt
due to global warming. You can lessen the effect of global warming if you
practice the 3rs of the environment: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
