Cells are the basic structural and functional units of all living organisms, and they can only be seen under a microscope due to their microscopic size. Organisms are classified as either unicellular, consisting of a single cell, or multicellular, made up of millions of cells that vary in shape and combine to form tissues and carry out specific functions. Common cell types include muscle, nerve, red blood, white blood, and amoeba cells, which differ in their shapes.

 Cell is defined as the structural
and functional unit of all living
organisms.
 All living organisms are made
up of cells.
CELL DISCOVERY
CELL DISCOVERY
CELL DISCOVERY
HOW DO THEY LOOK LIKE?
 Cells are microscopic
and cannot be seen
with naked eye.
 Cells can be observed
only under the
microscope.
 They have different
shapes and sizes.
CLASSIFICATION OF ORGANISMS
Organisms are classified based on the
number of cells they are made up of :-
a) UNICELLULAR b) MULTICELLULAR
Made of one cell Made of more cells
 Human is a multicellular
organism.
Our body has millions and
millions of cells. The cells vary in
shapes.
Many cells group to form tissues
and perform specific function.
TYPES OF CELLS
 Muscle cell – Spindle
shaped and Cylindrical
 Nerve Cell – Long and
Branched
 RBC – Spherical
Shaped
 WBC & Amoeba –
Irregular in shape

HOME ASSIGNMENT
 Students we have started a new chapter
today. Go through the slides on cell
discovery, cell types, how cells vary in size
and shape.
 Write only the content given on the slides 2,
4, 5, 7, 9 and 10 only in your biology
notebook. Need not draw any diagrams
given on these slides
