General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Remove the air filter housing and hoses

Disconnect the fuel lines

Remove the timing belt upper cover

Remove the covers

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Remove the access plug

Fit the crankshaft locking tool (T10340)


Turn the crankshaft clockwise
Until the crankshaft locking tool can be fitted

Removal
Remove the air filter housing and hoses

If the special tool does not fit


Remove the crankshaft locking tool
Turn the crankshaft 90° in the direction of rotation
Disconnect the fuel lines
Tighten the special tool (30 Nm)
Turn the crankshaft clockwise
Until the crankshaft touches the special tool (T10340)
Lock the exhaust camshaft gearwheel
Fit the camshaft gearwheel locking tool (T10477)
Tighten the bolt by hand

Remove the ancillary drive belt


Remove the windscreen wiper arms
Remove the plenum chamber
Attach the engine to the engine support bar (10-222 A)
Lift the engine slightly to relieve the engine supports
Remove the right-hand engine support

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Remove the bolts


Push the alternator aside

Remove the engine support bracket (A)


Remove the timing belt lower cover (B )

Removal
Remove the air filter housing and hoses

Fit the camshaft counterhold tool (T10172)


Remove the camshaft access plug
Disconnect the fuel lines

Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise


Remove the timing belt from the camshaft gearwheel
Renew the camshaft gearwheel bolts
Tighten the bolts by hand
Lock the crankshaft pulley, using the special tool to lock the crankshaft (T10475)
Loosen the idler pulley bolt
Remove the crankshaft pulley

Remove the timing belt lower cover


Remove the crankshaft gearwheel
Remove the timing belt
Installation
Refit the crankshaft gearwheel

Removal
Fit the timing
Remove belt
the air onto
filter the crankshaft
housing and hosesgearwheel
Tighten the idler pulley (45 Nm)
Refit the timing belt lower cover (8 Nm)
Refit the crankshaft pulley
Stage 1: (150 Nm)
Stage 2: (180°)

Disconnect the fuel lines

Align the inlet camshaft

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Check the camshaft timing marks

Fit the special tool to lock the camshaft gearwheel(s) (T10476)

Removal
Remove the air filter housing and hoses

Check for correct fit

Disconnect the fuel lines

Position theB.V.

Tighten the tensioner bolt
Tighten the bolt by hand

Check that cylinder 1 is still at TDC


Fit the timing belt onto the tensioner pulley and camshaft gearwheel
Fit the timing belt onto the idler pulley

Remove
Generalthe camshaft locking tool
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Turn the tensioner clockwise until pointer A is about 10 mm below pointer B


Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until pointer A is in line with pointer B

Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt (25 Nm)


Tighten
Removal the camshaft gearwheel bolts (A, 50 Nm )

Remove the air filter housing and hoses

Remove the crankshaft locking tool

Disconnect the fuel lines

Remove the bolt


Remove the special tool (T10477 )

Turn the crankshaft two rotations by hand


Fit the crankshaft locking pin

Fit the special tool (T10477)


Tighten the bolt by hand

Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (A, 90°)

Removal
Remove the air filter housing and hoses

Tighten the plug (20 Nm)

Disconnect the fuel lines

Remove the crankshaft locking pin

Refit the engine support bracket

Refit the right-hand engine support

Stage 1: (40 Nm)


Stage 2:
Removal (90°)
Refit
Removethe the

Refit the windscreen wiper arms
Refit the ancillary drive belt
Refit the engine covers
Reconnect the fuel lines

Disconnect the fuel lines

Refit the air filter housing
