Citrus in Vidarbha has been declining on account of one or the other reason. Technology Mission on
Citrus (T.M.C.), for Vidarbha & Marathwada, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture Under
Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India operational at Central Citrus Research Institute (CCRI) , Nagpur has
announced a schedule of various practices to be followed during February month for the Citrus growers of
Vidarbha.
Continue drip irrigation at the rate of 9-40, 60-96 and 108-137 litres per day for 1-4, 5-7, 8 years and
above trees old respectively. Follow irrigation with double ring method or square method irrigate
orchard at 7 to 10 days interval.
During this month in general citrus leaf miner and citrus psylla are active. At the time of Ambia flush
for citrus psylla control, spray imidaclroprid 0.5 ml, quinalphos 2 ml or dimethoate 2 ml in one litre
water. Against leaf miner spray thiamethoxam 0.3 g or fenvalerate 1 ml per litre of water. Repeat
application after 10 days in case the infestation of leaf miner and citrus psylla persists.
In case there is infestation of bark eating caterpillar infestation remove the wooden frass present in
between the joints of the tree trunk and inject 5-10 ml g dichlorovos (DDVP 76 EC) solution prepared
by mixing 3 to 5 ml in one litre water in the larval tunnel with the help of disposable syringe and cover
the level tunnel with a cotton swab.

Citrus in Vidarbha has been suffering due to several factors such as shortage of irrigation water during
summer months, incidence of insect pest and disease and fruit drop due to rise in temperature during the
month of May. Technology Mission on Citrus for Vidarbha & Marathawada, Mission for Integrated
Development of Horticulture Under Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India operational at Central Citrus
Research Institute (CCRI), Nagpur has announced a schedule of various practices to be followed during May
month for the Citrus growers of Vidarbha.
In Nagpur mandarin and sweet orange one year old tree should be given 17 litres of water /day/ tree, 5
year old tree need 102 litres / day / tree, 8 years tree require 188 litres / day/ tree and 10 years and above
tree require 235 litres water / day/ tree.
In acid lime (lemon) one year tree should be given 11 litres water / tree / day , 5 years tree need 42 litres /
day / tree, 8 years tree require 73 litres / tree/ day while 10 years and above tree need 108 litres water per
day per tree.
In kitchen garden the water moisture in soil should be seen and if dry ,water should be applied.
Irrigation should be continued to maintain the fruit set of Ambia bahar. Frequency of the irrigation
should be maintained at 4-5 days interval during the high (summer) temperature regime which is likely
to touch 470C in this month. If possible drip irrigation method should be followed for efficient utilization
of water. Besides, black polythene sheet of 100 micron thickness or any organic mulch (grass / straw)
should be spread around the tree trunk to reduce water evaporation.
Give water stress to tree for preparing them for the Mrig bahar in June.
In case a new orchard of citrus is to be established then dig the pits of size (75cm x 75cm x 75cm) at 6 x
6 meter spacing for Nagpur Santra (Nagpur mandarin), Mosambi (Sweet orange) and acid lime and the
pits should be kept exposed to solar rays.
Apply Bordeaux paste on the tree trunk upto height of 60 cm by paint brush. For preparation of
Bordeaux paste dissolve 1 kg copper sulphate in 5 litres of water in a plastic bucket and 1 kg slaked lime
in 5 litres of water in separate bucket and leave it overnight. Next day mix them together in another
bucket to make a paste. Apply the paste on tree trunk with in 12 hours after mixing.
If citrus trees are showing oozing symptoms of gum then scrap the area with a sharp knife and apply
mefenoxam MZ-68 or fosetyl Al paste on it.
Spraying and drenching with mefenoxam MZ-68 @ 2.5 gm or Fosetyl A1, 2.5 gm in one litre water on
the tree for controlling Phytophthora.
To check fruit drop in citrus crop spray the solution containing 1.5 gm 2, 4-D or gibberelic acid (GA),
100 g carbendazim 50 WP and 1 kg urea (1%) in 100 litres of water. Repeat the spray after 15 days if
fruit drop continues.
The menace of bark eating caterpillar can be checked in this month by removing the wooden frass and
inject 5-10 ml of dichlorovos prepared by mixing 3-4 ml of DDVP 76 EC in one litre of water with the
help of disposable syringe and close the larval tunnel with a cotton wool to cover the hole.

which is operational at Central Citrus Research Institute (CCRI), Nagpur has announced a schedule to be
followed during July month for the Extension officers of State, Zilla Parishad, KVK’s and citrus growers of
Vidarbha.
Start planting citrus plants in the filled pits by keeping the bud joint portion 20 to 25 cm above the
ground level. Before planting in pits the naked bud grafts roots should be dipped in solution of 2.5 gms
i.e. mefenoxam MZ-68 and 1 gm i.e. carbendazim in one liter water for 10-15 minutes.
Avoid water stagnation near the tree trunk. Drain out excess rain water from the orchard through the
drainage channels prepared earlier.
Remove water shoots from the plant and all shoots below the bud union of the graft . Intercrops such as
urad, moong, soyabean, groundnut etc. can be grown in between the interspaces of the plants. For
green manuring sow seeds of dhaincha or sunhemp @ 40 kg per hectare.
To check fruit drop of Ambia bahar spray the citrus tree with 1.5g 2, 4-D or gibberelic acid with 100
gm carbendazim and 1 kg urea mixed in 100 litres of water.
For Ambia bahar crop, muriate of potash 180 g per tree should be applied uniformly by leaving about 3
feet distance around the grown up tree. The applied fertilizer should be thoroughly mixed in the soil.
Prune all canker affected branches and leaves in acid lime and burn them. Spray copper oxychloride
180 g with streptocycline 6 g in 60 litre water to check citrus canker in acid lime. Repeat the spray
after 30 days interval.
Control of citrus psylla and leaf miner by spraying quinalphos 12.5 ml or imidacloprid 5 ml or

division. However the productivity per hectare is low due to one or the other reason. Technology Mission on
Citrus for Vidarbha, Marathwada and Chhindwara Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture
Under, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India operational at Central Citrus Research Institute (CCRI) ,
Nagpur has announced a schedule of various practices to be followed during October month for the Citrus
growers of Vidarbha.
Spread laterals for drip irrigation and irrigate the orchard having both Ambia and Mrig bahar crop. If
there is no drip irrigation system then irrigate through double ring irrigation method.
In Nagpur mandarin and sweet orange orchards give 9 litres of water per day/ tree for one year old tree;
for 4 years old tree give 40 litres water/day/tree; for 8 years old trees give 105 litres of water/day/tree
while for 10 years and above trees give 13 litres of water/day/tree.
The water requirement for acid-lime (lemon) is comparatively less. For one year old lemon tree give 6
litres water/day/tree; for 4 years old tree give 19 litres of water/day/tree; for 8 years old tree give 57 litres
water/day/tree while for 10 years and above tree give 92 litres water/day/tree.
Sowing of seeds of rootstocks of Jamberi/Rangpur lime may be done in plastic trays.
Manage fruit sucking moth by preparing a poison bait containing 10 ml malathion, and 100 ml orange
juice mixed with 100 g gur (jaggery) in 900 ml of water. Fill it in a broad mouth bottle and hang two
bottles per 25 trees all over the orchard.
Create smoke in orchard with grass (wet), cow dung cakes and neem leaves in the late evening hours
i.e. 7.00 to 8.00 pm during this month to repel the fruit sucking moth.
To manage fruit fly, install (methyl eugenol traps) @ 20 traps per hectare from 60 days before fruit
harvest and change the lure after every 30 days.
Follow clean cultivation in orchard and bury fallen fruit in a pit and cover it with soil every day.
In case of incidence of citrus mite spray dicofol @ 2 ml or ethion 2 ml or propargite 1 ml or wettable
sulphur 3 g per litre of water at 15 days interval on mrig crop. (Do not repeat the same miticide as far
as possible).

to touch 470C in this month.
In case a new orchard of citrus is to be established then dig the pits of size (2.5 ft x 2.5 ft x 2.5ft) at 6 x 6
meter spacing for Nagpur Santra, Mosambi and acid lime and the pit should be kept exposed to solar
rays.
Apply Bordeaux paste on the tree trunk upto a height of 24 inches by brush. For preparation of Bordeaux
paste dissolve 1 kg copper sulphate in 5 lit. water in a plastic bucket and 1 kg slaked lime in 5 litres
water in separate bucket leave it for overnight. Next day mix them together to make a paste. Apply the
paste on tree trunk with in 12 hours after mixing.
If the citrus trees are showing oozing symptoms of gum then scrap the area with a sharp knife and apply
Metalaxyl MZ-72 or Fosetyl Al paste on it.
Spraying and drenching with Metalaxyl MZ-72 @ 2.75g or Fosetyl A1, 2.5g in one litre water on the tree
for controlling Phytophthora.
The menace of bark eating caterpillar can be checked in this month by removing the wooden frass and
then injecting dichlorovos 76 EC 0.1% @ 5 ml in the larval tunnel with the help of disposable syringe or
pushing in the dichlorovos 76 EC 0.1% soaked cotton wool into the larval tunnel.
For controlling citrus mealy bugs the basin around the tree trunk should be earthned up.wrap sticky band
by smearing with mobile oil around the tree trunk and destruction of ant’s nests should be done.
Spraying of chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 2 ml / litre of water or dichlorovos @ 2.5 ml / litre of water should
be done on the tree leaves and trunk.
To control snails on citrus use metaldehyde pellets. Alternatively take straw of paddy or wheat, jaggery
or sugarcane mollasses, yeast and methomyl or Thiomethazim. In order to prepare poison bait dissolve 2
kg jaggery, 25 yeast in 10 litres water. Now add wheat or paddy husk and mix well and keep for
fermentation for 10 to 12 hrs. Thereafter add 100 g methomyl or 50g thiomethazim and spread it at the
base of citrus tree trunk in the evening throughout the entire orchard. Citrus snail will be attracted and
will die after feeding on such poison bait.
