3 IMPLEMENTATION OF CARLSON SAN APPROACH IN TODAY’S ENVIRONMENT.
Just like many other IT staff who have faced drastic growth of storage, Norman Owens
observed a few years back that his company was going to face a challenge if it doesn’t cater for

storage resources on SAN (Storage Area Network). Owens who is an engineer of storage
network and consultants of Carlson Companies addressed an audience of his peers at Storage
essentially the name of a household but it has an international presence beyond such well-known
hotel and retail chains just like Radisson and TGI Friday’s hotels and resorts). Before
consolidation onto a SAN, Owens’ services group shared nature supported configuration with a
single mainframe and 26 servers, in which most of the servers were working hard and supporting
This arrangement had the capacity to handle 14 terabytes of data, over an almost 54 SCSI
Owens noted, “There were lots of cables”, whenever they were in need of further storage, “We
would just buy more frames.” After the company requested his group to take its global IT
operations in their hands, he along with his coworkers decided that it was the time they should
look for an approach of consolidation. They decided that the current storage of the company
should be entered on IP “fan-out” infrastructure with the Systems’ switches and the core/edge
design of the Nishan which Owen calls “the funnel”. Owens while commenting on this decision
of acquiring an IP-based solution said that the ability to connect to more remote sites was
something that was necessary for them to do or else the approval of their storage wouldn’t have

4 THE PROS AND CONS OF DATA CONSOLIDATION ON A SAN CENTRAL DATA
FACILITY AS COMPARED TO THE DISPERSED ARRANGEMENT IT REPLACES.
1 GATHERING AND ANALYZING DATA ON SAN HAS ITS OWN PROS AND CONS.
One benefit is that the
data can be stored in a single server as opposed to multiple servers that will make it convenient
to provide security to the data. This will also require only one backup instead of multiples and
the cost will be decreased in the machine as well as man-hours. Another benefit is the surety of
server and not another simultaneously. This could disseminate data throughout the company
which can bring a negative impact on the business strategies. Putting data in one place will give
the leverage of faster and higher quality flow of information which is more consistent and
accurate. Similarly, the implementation of the San will also require expensive equipment and
technologies like Ethernet switches for effective and efficient transmission of data (Sons, 2015).
5 EVALUATION OF THE ISSUES CAUSED BY CARLSON SAN MIXING EQUIPMENT
BASED ON DIFFERENT VENDORS AND THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR
MANAGEMENT TO DEAL WITH SUCH SITUATION.
The SAN of Carlson mixes equipment and thus there integration might pose the company

a significant challenge. It’s better to choose equipment from the same vendor because all the
pieces are designed for synergistic work, being compatible with each other. Its, however, not
1 ALWAYS NECESSARY AND PRACTICAL TO CHOOSE EQUIPMENT FROM THE
SAME VENDOR. Most of the larger
manufacturing companies try their best that their equipment functions with equipment produced
of the equipment satisfies you (Clark, 2006). Since SAN mixes various technologies from
various vendors, it's therefore wise that the IT shop should test the compatibility before the
implementation. Most of the companies who invested in this venture failed because of not being
able to integrate their systems and applications in a good manner. In lieu of implementation and
integration, the management should adopt the practices of other successful businesses.

Those headaches can be eliminated with cloud computing because it’s not your responsibility
