chini. Ikawa patashika na nguo kuchanika. Maumivu yakazidi na macho yalimtoka pima.
Bahati nzuri mkewe alikwishamaliza mapishi jikoni ghafla alimuona sebuleni muhibu wake yuko
kwenye tafarani akiwayawaya huku miguu ikining’inia. Bahati nzuri mkewe alichukua kile kisu
akakata kamba haraka, jamaa likadondoka chini puu! Kama gunia la chumvi, akamshukuru mkewe

Ali arrived at Azimio Town Bus station for the first time at around 3:30pm. He was new to the
town and was going to Azimio College where he was due to start two years’ of teacher training. He
had a lot about the town. He remembered to have been told to be careful when crossing the
roads to avoid being hit by speeding cars. He was not worried about rough drivers or their cars.
His main concern was about conmen. A friend had warned him to be careful when seeking to
people he did not know. The friend had told him that it was easy to lose his money in a very
strange circumstances. Ali was therefore very careful. He did not want to be a victim of thefty.
Ali lifted his suitcase and tried to walk some few steps. It was very heavy. He saw young boys
selling ground nuts and a variety of cookies . “ shall I ask them? No, I won’t. They might be
dangerous people ,” he told himself. He moved closer to a food stall. There were people eating
and chatting , No one seemed to notice his presence. He stood there for a while and then decided
to ignore the chatting people
“I will ask a taxi driver to show me the direction ,” he told himself. A taxi driver knows many
places. “Excuse me, sir. Can you direct me to Azimio Teachers’ College please?” Ali said.“ Why
don’t you take a taxi? The college is very far from here. You can’t reach there on foot,” said the
taxi driver. “I don’t have money for taxi. A friend of mine told me the that the college is a walking
distance from the bus station,” said Ali.“No, it is not. The college is located very far from the town
centre; about 20 kilometers roughly. You can take commuter bus number 16 near the zebra
crossing. You will get off at the stadium, on Kambarage Road. Turn right and go straight. You will
see a mosque on your right hand side and continue walking until you reach the college,” the taxi
driver said.“Thank you very much,” said Ali as he took the bus number 16. He followed the driver’s
instructions and arrived at Azimio College in half an hour later.

SECTION B
14. Read the following passage and then answer the questions that follow:
For although political and social stability is necessary to any real national or personal freedom, so
too is change in our circumstances. At present our national freedom of ten exists on paper only, for
our country is so poor, and so weak relative to other nations, that we do not play our rightful part in
the human community. Decisions on matters which vitally concern us can be and often are made
without any reference to us. And this is understandable. Even defending our national integrity
against the intervention of foreign powers stains us the utmost. A very great change in our
economic well-being is necessary before we can meet these responsibilities of national freedom.
Nor is it only in national terms that real freedom is under mined by our poverty. What freedom has
our subsistence farmer? He scratches a bare living from the soil provided the rains do not fail, his
children work at his side without schooling, medical care, or even good feeding.
Certainly he has freedom to note and to speak as he wishes. But these freedoms are much real to
him than his freedom to be exploited. Only as his poverty is reduced will his existing political
freedom become properly meaningful and his right to human dignity become a fact of human
dignity.
