PRINCIPLES OF SPEECH DELIVERY
I - OBJECTIVES
A - CONTENT STANDARDS - - Realizes the rigors in crafting one’s speech
B - PERFORMANCE STANDARDS- - Proficiently delivers various speeches using the principles
of effective speech delivery
C – LEARNING COMPETENCIES - Uses principles of effective speech delivery focusing
on articulation, modulation , stage presence, facial
expressions, gestures and movements, rapport with
the audience
Specific Objectives:
A. Discuss the principles of speech delivery
B. Perform a speech illustrating well the principles of speech delivery.
C. Appreciate the value of knowing the proper manner of delivering a speech for effective delivery.
IV – PROCEDURES
A – Preliminary Activities
Prayer, checking of attendance, and setting the mood of the classroom.
B – Motivation –
Grouping procedure: A box of strips of paper containing word will be passed which each
students will have to draw one. These words are: proper, varied, connected, loud, clear, confident,
convincing, interesting representing the names of the 8 groups. They will be seated together in one
place.
GAME: Tell me what?
Students guess whether the word shown on the strip is functional or content word. They will
say “The BEST” if it is functional and “SPEAKER” if content. The group to first stand and give the
correct answer wins a point. After all the words, they will create the sentence of all the words
mentioned, write it on a paper and submit it to the teacher. The first to submit with the correct
answer wins 3 points.
C – Presentation
Objectives of the lesson are presented.
Teacher points out to the outlines of the lesson: the principles of speech delivery which
include in the aspects: articulation, modulation, stage presence, facial expression, gesture and
movement, and audience rapport. Some known world’s public speakers will be presented.
Two different videos of different speakers will be shown. Each group writes their observation
and differentiates the two speakers.
D. Discussion
Each group draws a topic assignment which they will discuss based on the given lecture note.
There are 4 groups assigned to explain and another 4 groups to differentiate the two speakers
on the video in terms of this principle assigned to them. These topics include: ARTICULATION
and MODULATION, STAGE PRESENCE, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, GESTURES, & MOVEMENTS,
AUDIENCE RAPPORT

E. Application (Differentiated)
This time, the group will be engaged in Public Speaking Competition. To cater different talents of
members, each group chooses a SPEAKER, EMCEE to introduce the speaker, COACH/TRAINER of
the speaker, MAKE-UP ARTIST / STYLIST to groom the speaker, and some to render
INTERMISSION NUMBER.
