The teaching-learning process has been an integral part of human being. And the use of
devises or instructional materials had been observe as an important factor in the process. The
development in modern technology has made available a wide range of instructional materials to
supplement teachers’ efforts in teaching-learning process. More importantly, the curricula of the
modern subjects call for extensively and frequently combined use of traditional with
convectional materials in teaching-learning process (Abolade, 2001).
Science is everywhere. From simple digestion to more complex circulation, science has
explained it well. The discoveries of things has become endless because of science. Science also
helps in solving problem or explaining why natural disasters happened. Thus, science paved it
way in the Philippine curriculum because it aims to develop students’ scientific inquiry skills,
values and attitudes, such as objectivity, curiosity, and honesty and habits of mind including
critical thinking.
Considering the importance of Science in human’s life and to the society, it is just and right
that the way it should be taught and learned must give an utmost care, consideration, and
attention.
In that case, with the revolving needs of students, teachers should also evolve in finding ways
on how pupils will enjoy the topic, that is why, I have shaped “Around the World” as an
instructional material in order to make learning more engaging.
II. MATERIALS
Flywood scrap
Printed pictures (phases of the moon, earth, moon, sun and labels)
Used screw
III. PROCEDURE
Ideally, the “Around the World” Instructional Material serves as a springboard for teaching
rotation and revolution so with phases of the moon. It can be accompanied by series of questions
to develop students’ problem solving skills.
This improvised instructional material will help the students in familiarizing the concept
of rotation and revolution, so with the phases of the moon. It will also enhance the
socialization skills of the students because this can be used in group activity so with
developing their inquiry skills.
