INTRODUCTION

Engineer plays important roles in society. Engineer in Society (MEC 600) is a subject
that teaches the students to play their role in society. As a requirement for this subject, we have
been tasked to carry out a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program. Every industry player
needs to do CSR program as part of their responsibilities to the public. By doing this assignment,
students will understand the importance of doing CSR activity, the benefits gained from the
program towards company or university which they represent as well as the people being helped.

As for our group, after several discussions, we have appointed to do CSR related to preserving
the cleanliness of school and the importance of safety. For this assignment, we chose Sekolah
Agama Menengah Tinggi Tengku Ampuan Jemaah,Shah Alam, Selangor as our targeted
school. The beaches located in Shah Alam, which takes around 15 minutes from UiTM Shah
Alam.

OBJECTIVES

 To implement the essential of safety to school student

 To find suitable place for conducting CSR program

 To change behaviour that cause pollution

4
PART A: RESEARCH ON COMMUNITY SERVICE

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that helps a

company be socially accountable. Basically it is relatable to itself, its stake holders, and the
public. In addition, corporate social responsibility is also known as corporate citizenship
companies can be conscious of the kind of impact they are having on all aspects of society
including economic, social, and environmental. Instead of contributing negatively to a certain
company, company can operate in a way that enhance society and the environment. Corporate
social responsibility (CSR) is also a broad concept that can take many forms depending on the
company and industry. Business can benefit society while boosting their own brand through CSR
programs, philanthropy and volunteer’s efforts. The importance of CSR for company is as equal
as to the community. Furthermore, stronger bond between employee and corporation can be
forge through CSR activity. In other words, they can boost morale and can help both employees
and employers feel more connected with the world around them. A company needs to be
responsible to itself and shareholders in order for a company to be socially responsible. Often,
companies that adopt CSR programs have grown their business to the point where they can give
back to society. Thus, CSR is primarily a strategy of large corporations. Also, the more visible
and successful a corporation is, the more responsibility it has to set standards of ethical behavior
for its peers, competition, and industry. For instant, through CSR activities, there will be an
ability to have positive impacts in the community. Keeping social responsibility front of mind
encourages businesses to act ethically and to consider the social and environmental impacts of
their business. For instant, by avoiding or mitigating detrimental impacts to the community of
their business. On the other hand, there is also an easy way to deliver benefits for the community
if the organizations can find ways to make changes in terms of their services or value chain. CSR
can also support public value outcomes because public value itself is defining that the value that
an organization contributes to the society. There are two situations to enhance this statement.
First, where this happened directly which is through the activities provided by the organization’s
itself such as volunteerism and philanthropy. Second is indirectly happened where the

5
organization’s services enable others to contribute to the community. On the other hand, CSR
can also supports being an employer of choice. In other words, company has the ability to attract
and retain high caliber staff. In order to implement being an 4 employer of choice is that,
offering work life balance, positive working environment, and work place flexibility to the staff.
This CSR framework can also help the company to become more attractive to potential future
employees who are looking for a work places with socially responsible practices, community
mindedness and sound ethics. Moreover, both professional and personal development can also be
encouraging by practicing CSR. Staff can be trained or teach with a new skill by providing them
opportunity to be involved in company’s socially responsible which can be applied in the work
place as and in turn. Outside activities (beyond their usual work responsibilities) are also a
chance for the employees to contribute to work and causes that they might feel passionate about,
or learn something entirely new which can help enrich their own perspectives. By supporting
these activities, organizations encourage growth and support for employees. The most important
thing to implement CSR activities is that to enhance relationships with clients especially the
potential one. The strong framework is essential to build and maintain trust between the
company and clients. In order to have a loyal client, company first need to provide services /
products that can gain the clients trust towards the organizations itself. Customers trust is a
crucial matter that need to be consider because it helps in ensuring that a company can be survive
and having a production to sustain. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) should be a must
practice trademark for all organizations in order to gain benefit as stated earlier. There are so
much positive vibes can be gain from pertaining the CSR.
