Advanced Diskless Boot Client


1. Setup Multi Boot Client
At present more and more customers use multiple operating systems such as Windows 7 and
Windows 10. We developed a Multi Operating System Boot to meet market demand. Multi OS Boot
is a selection of more than one operating system to start from the same client. Any customers can
choose their operating system such as Windows 7 and Windows 10 Operating Systems in the same
server at the same time.
In newer version of CCBoot , multi boot system has been simplified and now can be done with a
simple selection of boot image in the client properties.
Note: You can only set two image as boot image in the multi boot system.
1) ​ A
​ dd several image in the “Image Manager”. Refer “Add Image” to add image to image manager.

2) ​ O
​ nce you have two images, you can setup Multi Boot.

3) ​ ​Open ‘Clients Details” dialog box and then click the second drop down of Image field. Choose
desired image.

​ ow diskless boot the client, CCBoot Multi System Start up screen as shown on Figure.

How to Set Default Timeout Boot Menu


In newest version of CCBoot, setting default timeout for boot menu has been optimized to the
point of just entering time out value.
1. Open the options dialog box and enter desired timeout value in the “Boot Menu Timeout”
field. (timeout value is in seconds). Once done click ‘OK’ to save the settings.

1. How to Set Graphic Boot Menu


In newer version of CCBoot setting up Graphics Boot Menu has been made simple.
Follow the steps below to enable Graphics Boot Menu.
1) ​ ​Select and open “Edit Client” Dialog box for the client you want to setup Graphics Boot Menu.
Then open the “PXE” drop down menu and choose “graphics”.

​ fter you diskless boot the client, you will see the below.

4) ​ ​You can change the background of the Graphics Boot Menu. Just rename your image file to
'logo.jpg and replace the file in the ‘tftp\graphics’ folder inside the CCBoot installation directory (as
shown in Figure 1-4).

Notes: If you have activated your Windows 7 with third party activators then the graphics boot
may fail.

To fix this, please use a different activator to activate your client image.
Make Wake On Lan work
There are many times when Wake On Lan (WOL) does not work on clients. Learn how to make
it work.
In new motherboards there is a setting “EuP 2013” which if enabled will turn off LAN when you
shutdown your computer. So, you need to disable “EuP 2013” in the bios.
Disabling this function will keep the LAN port enabled when the system is put in S3 or S5.
1. In the BIOS click the “Advanced” tab and choose “Power Management Setup” and open
it (Figure 1).

2. In “Power Management Setup”highlight “EuP 2013” option and click “Enter” key and
choose “Disabled” and press enter again (Figure 2).

3. Now, “EuP 2013” is disabled (Figure 3).

4. Now, highlight and open “Wake Up Event Setup” from “Advanced” tab (Figure 4)

5. In “Wake Up Event Setup”, highlight “Resume By PCI-E Device” or “Wake on PCI-E”,


and choose “Enabled” on pop up and press “Enter” key (Figure 5).

6. Now, “Resume By PCI-E Device” is enabled (Figure 6). Note: if you do not enable this
then, you cannot wake your clients from LAN.

Note: Some mother boards do not have "Resume By PCI-E" instead have PME, hence you
need to enable the "Enable PME" option to make wake on lan work (Figure 6-a).

7. Now, boot your client PC in super client mode and then install latest NIC driver for you
motherboard’s NIC. (Important do not skip)
8. Now, open network properties, and then click the “Power Management” tab, there check
all check boxes (Figure 7).
Note: Usually all NIC drivers have enabled WoL but this latest option (higlighted in green) is
always disabled, so WoL do not work. To make WoL work, must enable this option.

9. Now, click the “Advanced” tab and then enable the three options, “Wake on Magic
Packet”, “Wake on Pattern Match” and “Shutdown Wake-On-Lan” (Figure 8).
Note: Some NIC have , “Green Ethernet” or “Energy Efficient Ethernet” if they are present
please disable them as well.

10) Then run CCBootPNP.exe, press "Collect local NIC" and "Merge Collected NIC"
respectively (Figure 9).

11) Finally turn off the PC, disable super client mode and save changes.
In Short you need to do the following changes.

In the motherboard BIOS:


- LAN Option ROM = Enabled (this is required for diskless booting)
- EuP 2013 = Disabled
- Resume by PCI-E device = Enabled
In Windows, under power management:
- Allow this device to wake the computer = ON
- Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer = ON
In Windows, under advanced:
- Energy Efficient Ethernet = Disabled
- Shutdown Wake Up = Enabled
- Wake on Magic Packet = Enabled

Enable USB write protection using CCBoot

CCBoot client application has option that allows you to enable USB write protection for you
client PC, preventing any user form unauthorized copy of data from your client computers.

Here is how you can do it.

1. Boot your client in "Super client" mode, and then open CCBoot client application.

2. On the "CCBootClient" window, click the "Addition option" button.

3. Then on the "Additional Option" window, check the "Enable USB write protection" check box
and click "OK" button (Figure 1).

4. Restart the client computer and check if you can write on your USB.

5. Once confirmed, turn off the client PC and save the image.

Additional Options in CCBoot client

In new version CCBoot 20180319 and higher, we have added "Additional Options" functions in
CCBoot Client application.

1. System Optimization: This will disable services that are not required for Windows operations
and can be safely disabled.

2. Hide Disks: This option will just hide disks from My Computer. If you want to restore this point
- just use "Restore Optimization" button and then restart client PC.

3. Enable USB Write Protection: This will disable the ability to copy files to the USB drives.
