Which emotion regulation technique do you think would be the most successful in
mitigating boredom and why?

Emotional regulation is the process whereby people change their thoughts or

emotional expression. It can be used to make people feel better or achieve a variety of
personal and interpersonal goals. It can be achieved using a variety of strategies, some more
effective or less effective than others. It is influenced by regulatory resources available to
them, by their beliefs about emotions, and understanding their emotions. There are positive
and negative affect of emotions. Positive effect as a mood dimension consisting of positive
emotions such as excitement, enthusiasm, and elation at high end. Meanwhile, negative affect
is a mood dimension consisting of nervousness, stress, boredom and anxiety at the high end.

Emotion regulation technique that would be the most successful in mitigating

boredom is reappraisal. Reappraisal is cognitive, which means it involves how people think
and change your emotional state. It is considered as a kind of positive emotion regulation,
because it is flexible and because it changes all the emotions, not just one part. Revaluations
are associated with lower levels of depression and a higher level of well-being. Many studies
has shown that people who use reappraisal strategies can change a stressful situation by re-
interpreting the meaning of negative emotional stimuli. They deal with a challenging
situation by taking a proactive role in restoring their feelings and adopt a more positive
attitude. These efforts are often rewarded with more positive emotions and less negative, as
well as durability, better social relationships, self-esteem is higher, and general life
satisfaction.

Other than that, job promotion or job rotation also can successful in mitigating
boredom. Boredom in job is cause by repetition or always do the same work routine. This
will cause low in interest doing the daily work. Applying the job rotation can help the
employee to learn new skill and knowledge as they will learn new things rather than before
this. They also can include all the challenge in the work as it can increase the excitement and
challenging mood in order to get the work done. This also can increase the positive emotion
and increase excitement.
