How Homer Calculates The Hydro Power Output

HOMER uses an equation to calculate the hydro power output of a turbine in each time step that considers the turbine's efficiency, water density, gravitational acceleration, effective head, and flow rate through the turbine. It multiplies these factors to determine the electrical power output in kilowatts. The document provides the specific equation HOMER uses to model hydro power generation.

How HOMER Calculates the Hydro Power Output

In each time step, HOMER calculates the electrical power output of the Hydro turbine using the following
equation:

where:
Phyd = power output of the hydro turbine [kW]
ηhyd = hydro turbine efficiency [%]

ρwater = density of water [1000 kg/m3]

g = acceleration due to gravity [9.81 m/s2]
hnet = effective head [m]

= hydro turbine flow rate [m3/s]
