SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROJECT (SIP)

SUMMER PROJECT

In partial completion of MBA course and to make management students acquaint with
industry working culture & environment Savitribai Phule Pune University has made it
mandatory for MBA students to do Summer Internship Project (SIP:4 Credit Course) and the
viva voce will be conducted by the university in the third semester. Hence, compulsorily all
MBA students must undergo a practical training of minimum 8 weeks. During the training
program students are expected to collect vital information through internal and external
sources so as to reach concrete conclusions on the given subject. Students have to prepare the
project report under the guidance of internal guide and has to submit it within due date.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

1. Summer Internship project should be done individually.


2. Student should take guidance from allotted Institution guide only.
3. Students can refer earlier research projects. But it should be merely for the purpose of
reference. Any copy paste work in the project report is strictly not allowed.
4. Students are required to submit the project proposal of selected topic to the concerned
guide before starting actual research work.
5. The nature of project work should be such that it could be useful for the concerned
organization, industry/ Society and students as well.
6. Header and Footer shall consist of Institute name and academic year respectively. No
Other information should be included in the Header and Footer.
7. All SIP work should be done well before deadline. Late submissions or exceeding
deadlines will have to pay condonation fee.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

a ) Proposal Formulation

Proposal of the project should be prepared in consultation with the SIP guide and
same should be submitted to SIP coordinator for final approval. Students are
required to present their proposal to the Institute’s research team. The concerned
proposals will be approved only after team’s consent. Proposals incomplete in any
respect will not be accepted. Students are advised to retain a copy of the proposal.
The Proposal must have the following components:

 Introduction, brief background and Rationale of the topic chosen for the project.
 Statement of the problem.
 Objectives (clearly stated).
 Research Methodology:
 Research Design
 Nature and source of data/information to be collected.
 Sample and sampling technique.
 Rationale of chosen organization and the sample.
 Tools and Techniques to be used for data collection - details of the
tools/questionnaire to be used and its relevance with the objectives of the project.
 Method/s to be used for data collection.
 Data handling and analysis- organization and analysis of data. Statistical tools
to be used for analysis. Relevance of statistical tools with the objectives of the
project.
 Limitation of the proposed project, if any.
 Future direction for further research (optional).
 Any other relevant detail which will help better appreciation and understanding of the
project proposal.
 Proper Project Proposal duly signed by the student and the guide with dates.

b) Approval/non-approval of the Project Proposal

List of approved and non-approved proposals shall be displayed on the main notice
board.

c) Resubmission of Project Proposal

In case of non-approval of the proposal the comments/suggestions for reformulating


the project proposal will be communicated to the student. In such case the revised
project proposal should be submitted on or before the respective date as
communicated.
PROJECT REPORT
a) Formulation
The length of the report may be about 60 to 70 with 1.5 line space typed pages not
exceeding approximately 18,000 words (excluding appendices and exhibits).
However 10% variation on either side is permissible.

The Project Report must have the following:


 Cover Page – must have the name of the student and the name of the guide, along
with the title of the Project.
 Detailed table of contents with page nos.
 All pages of the Project Report must be numbered as reflected in the table of
contents.
 Introduction to the Project and Review of Literature
 Statement of problem
 Objectives of the Project
 Scope of the study

Research Methodology:

 Research Design
 Nature and Source of data/information
 Sample and Sampling method with rationale
 Details of the tools
 The Questionnaire and other methods used and their purpose
 Reliability and Validity of the tools used
 Administration of tools and techniques
 Data collection
 Data Handling, Statistical tools used for Data Analysis
 Data Interpretation and Findings
 Recommendations
 Summary and Conclusion
 Limitations of the Project
 Direction for further research
 Reference/Bibliography
 Annexures/Appendices (Questionnaire used etc.)

b) Submission of Project Report

Students must submit golden embossed two hard copies and one soft copy (CD) of the
project report to SIP coordinator on or before 30th September 2017 in Sem III. One hard
copy will be returned to the student after the external Viva Voce. The students should
print their project reports on both faces of the paper.

c) Internal Viva Voce

Internal viva voce is mandatory for all students and hence all students must appear for the
same. This viva voce will be for the assessment of internal 50 Marks.

d) External Viva Voce

There shall be an external viva-voce for the SIP for 50 marks. Savitribai Phule Pune
University will communicate the date and external supervisor for external viva voce. The
examiner’s panel for the same shall include one external faculty member nominated by
the University and Project Coordinator.

The Internal & the External viva-voce shall evaluate the project based on:

1. Actual work undertaken by the student


2. Student’s understanding of the organization and business environment
3. Outcome of the project
4. Utility of the project to the organization
5. Basic analytical capabilities
