EN - Section 2 - Processing Options - Step 1 Matching and Calibration Tabs

The document discusses processing options in Pix4Dmapper for matching and calibration steps. It provides explanations and solutions for four multiple choice questions about geometrically verified matching, alternative calibration methods, reasons for calibrating internal and external camera models, and how remapping works for projects with under 500 images.

Section 2: Solutions

Processing options – Step 1 Matching and Calibration tabs

1. Geometrically Verified a. Finds more matches

Matching:
b. Filters false positive matches and finds more matches
c. Places the point cloud somewhere in the real world
d. Calibrates the external orientation of the photos

Solution: B

Geometrically Verified Matching is slower but more robust. Geometrically

Verified Matching discards geometrically inconsistent matches. It is to enable
this option when many similar features are present throughout the project, e.g.,
rows of plants in a farming field, window corners on a building’s facade, etc.

2. Using the Alternative calibration a. Heterogeneous (complex) scenes without geotags

method is NOT helpful for which
b. Heterogeneous (complex) scenes with geotags
of the following conditions:
c. Homogeneous scenes with geotags
d. Multispectral projects with geotags

Solution: A

The Alternative calibration method is optimized for aerial nadir images with
accurate geolocation, large quantities of homogeneous image content, and
relatively flat terrain, e.g., fields.
At least 75% of the images must be geolocated for the Alternative calibration
method to be available. The calibration will likely fail if the number of oblique
images (>35 deg) comprises more than 5% of the entire image set.

3. Which of the following reasons a. Dust, humidity, temperature, and other environmental conditions cause

eters?
c. We do not have an accurate model of our camera’s characteristics because
we did not calibrate it in a controlled laboratory setting.
d. All of the above

Solution: D

It is imperative that you have an accurate definition of your camera model’s

internal and external parameters.
External physical forces and changes in environmental conditions may alter the
camera’s internal geometries. This is especially true for smaller cameras that

are typically installed on UAVs.

The external camera model parameters that were measured by a GPU and IMU
can be improved by using the image content to solve for the camera’s position
ad orientation taking the image content into consideration.
The camera model’s internal parameters are not known unless the camera was
calibrated.

b. Use the results of an interim calibration to calculate additional matches.

mapper will... c. Not calculate additional matches.
d. Calibrate the internal camera model parameters.

Solution: B

If Rematch is enabled, additional matches will be calculated based on the re-

sults of an interim calibration that was calculated using an initial set of match-
es.

When set to Automatic, Rematch will be enabled for all projects that include
fewer than 500 images and will be disabled for all projects that include more
than 500 images. You can manually enable or disable Rematch by selecting
Custom.
