INTRODUCTION

English has become a world-wide language, with numerous countries adopting it as an

official language. English is the dominant international language in science, business, aviation,
entertainment, and diplomacy, and also on the Internet. It is now the language of global business,
or the lingua franca. This means that in the international business community, English is used
for communication by people who do not speak the same language.

Below given facts had been taken from http://wikipedia.org/ : Approximately 375 million people
speak English as their first language. English today is probably the third largest language by
number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. However, when combining
native and non-native speakers it is probably the most commonly spoken language in the world,
though possibly second to a combination of the Chinese languages (depending on whether or not
distinctions in the latter are classified as "languages" or "dialects").

English is a global usage. If you are going to work abroad, travel, etc., English is surely
the language which will get you the furthest with the largest amount of people. There are no
restriction to us either we want to write in what ever language we want to use, but when it come
to certain work that could not be sure the meaning, most of the time we will use English
dictionary as reference. It same when ever we go to oversea, we will use English to read and
write.

Information can be delivered by communication, with a lot of method nowadays, such as

internet and mass media. English used by most of the medium. By using the most command
language used in the world, a lot of information can be spread to the world at large. Information
should be spread effectively, so people could respond to the news instantly. But if the
information could not be understood, they could not respond to the news immediately. As
English is establish language to be used, it is important as the main medium of the
communication.

The other importance of English language is also in writing purpose. As English is

established as formal communication language, it is important to write any formal document in

the said language; since the document will be read by people world wide. Good writer doesn’t
mean good speaker, but a good speaker should be a good writer. Because a speaker especially for
public speaking should write their text first before it is delivered to the audience. So the text must
be written in such a manner that could convince and effective to the receiver.

BENEFITS
Oral Communication And Personal Development

a. Conversation; Easy to understand: Should we use the global official language, and could
speak fluently and effectively, it is very easy for receiver to understand what ever information
that thrown out from our mouth. Speaking effectively in English will make people interesting to
hear more from us. Hence, they will listen to us. Then they will always seek opportunity to make
conversation with us.

b. Build Relationship: Language is the tool of communication. Even speak and hearing
disable also could communicate each other by sign language. By this mean, speak effectively is
the key of make a new contact, networking as well as relationship. Speak English effectively is
the best way to build better relationship each other. Everyday people come from everywhere in
this world. The one and only language that familiar each other mostly is English. Effective
speaking will be much better to build relationship with foreigner world wide.

c. Travelling: This doesn’t mean that if you could not speak English, you cannot travel
oversea. But the main point here is, it is better for you speak English effectively. This would
make you get better attention from the host. More over, they will fill comfortable to start
conversation with foreigner and strangers to them.

d. Self confident: The more you can speak effectively in English, the more confident you
are. If we cannot speak fluently and stammer, we will lost focus. We will more confident if we
fluent in English. On the other hand, we will lost listener.
e. Respect: First impressions count in all societies. When you meet someone for the first
time, they will making decision immediately to ‘judge books by its’ cover’. Unfortunately,

individual who could not speak effectively and fluently in English, were assumed as low level of
education. People always judge another who can speak English fluently and effectively as
educated and high level of thinking.

f. Self-worth: Everybody is watching you. Being able to speak effectively will give a big
help to your self. Extra language means extra value. The most valueable language is international
usage language; it is, English. The better you are in English, the better level you are valued.
Means if you could speak effectively, you are very valueable.

Performance in Public

a. Public Speaking Skill: One of the benefits of public speaking is learn how to present
yourself in a professional manner to someone and how to speak so that everything you say makes
sense. This only achieved when you can speak effectively in English, other wise, people could
not accept the person who stand on the rostrum is stammer.

b. Dialogue: This about face to face oral communication. People will ask the questions and
we will answer it. Sometime and most of the time, English too, have their own jargon and pidgin.
That will make certain words give the other meaning than we understood. By speak English
effectively, those jargon and pidgin should be a minor problem. The dialogue will run smoothly.
Because both speaker and listener could understand each other better.

c. Public Forum: In forum, it needs 2 ways communication. Respond from audience

regarding matters that raised. Should there any issue to be discussed, flounce and effective
speaking is very important. Because the most thing that must be afraid of is miscommunication.
The whole forum will turn upside down if the audience misunderstood the opinion, argument,
suggestion and what so ever the speaker wants to deliver to the audience.

d. Speak for Yourself and Others: Therefore, of course it become special significant to our
daily life. To give a talk, make a speech to the foreigner audience, English will be used as the
main communication language. If you are a boss of a multi-racial employee, or you are an

executive in a company and you are ordered to give a public speaking and training to your
foreigner labor, English will be the language.

e. Provide Appropriate Responses: This is continuity from the above. Smart speaker will
respond smartly with appropriate answer. Effective speaking is needed to respond with smart and
fluent. All ideas and recommendation will be spread clearly when the speaker could speak
effectively by using the simple words and language, plus some positive body language. Any
ideas that received could be translated and valued in proper manner. Do not forget to respect
other person’s opinions. Answer them with a behave enunciation.

f. Inform Viewpoints: After valuating all ideas all ideas, suggestion and argument, certain
recommendation should be given. Not every comment are realistic so viewpoints should be
inform in very persuasive. It won’t be successful if it is not supported with speaking effectively.

Better Prospect and Opportunity

a. Job/career: In most fields of work your ability to speak English can help you advance
your career, helping you get the job you want and earn more money. No matter what your area of
expertise, skill in English will contribute substantially to your success.

b. Business: English is a business language. It is used when making international deals.

Business agreement, memorandum of understanding are made in English. Many products and
instructions are in English. You will understand the manual better.

c. Interview: Speak effectively in English will show your confident, your high level of
education, characteristic and smart. Fluent just one of the content in effective speaking. Other is
polite. Jargon will make others lost and bored. Language with full of ornamental phrases will
make people repellent.

 d. Experience: Never the less, too much benefits more than word can say. Experience
speaking effectively in English is invaluable. With the experience, you are not only market
yourself but the other people will recommend for you.

CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS

In conclusion, we can see that it is very important for us to speak English effectively.
There are plenty of benefits that you can gain from being fluent in English. Firstly, being able to
communicate in English will help you in your personal development. It will help boost your self-
confidence and self-worth if you are capable to conduct interpersonal, group and even public
speeches in English. If your mother tongue is not English, it also won't hurt to be a bilingual
would it? Since it is one of the leading languages in the world, you will be able to participate in
public forums, dialogues and other day to day conversations no matter where in the world you
are provided the natives of that particular country understand English. Being able to do so will
definitely aid you in standing up for yourself and voicing out your opinions on matters of public
importance. Speak good English and you will be able to express yourself more freely with no
hindrances whatsoever. You can hold yourself in a whole new light if you are capable of
speaking English without stammering and stuttering. Trust me on that. Those points
withstanding, it is also important for your career advancements. If you want to have a
competitive edge in the job market out there it is essential to be fluent in the language as you will
be able to perform confidently in job interviews and you stand a chance of being hired if you are
exceptionally good in the language because spoken English can be put to productive use in the
workforce. These things I have told you about hold true in my country and it is my assumption
that you are from such a place as well and so I hope you are convinced how extremely vital
English is to our survival in this era.

In order to do so, it is advice to practice these four simple steps.

 a. Read in English. By a lot of reading, we can find and meet some new words. So we could
use those new words later. We can use dictionary if we could not understand the meaning of
certain words.
b. Write in English. Grammar is very important. In order for us to improve our grammar is
by a lot of writing especially assignment. Wrong grammar means deduction of marks. Wrongly
use of grammar could make the sentence give the wrong meaning. And very dangerously, it
could lead to misunderstood.
c. Speak in English. This will improve our vocabulary as well as pronunciation. Certain
words should pronounce very clearly; example: ‘peak’ for mountain and ‘pick’ for lift up a small
things. Or could be a word that gives us a lot of meaning; example: ‘tank’ for army, ‘tank’ for
bathroom, ‘tank’ for kitchen stove and ‘tank’ for scuba diver.
d. Think in English. Lastly, but very important method to master in English but very a few
of people practice it in their live. It is think in English. Most of us always thinking in our mother
tongue language, and the try to translate it to English. This is not wrong but it is improper,
because it will lead to wrongly use of vocabulary and also grammar.
