Questions:
1. What are your experiences related to abundance? How do you feel about being abundant?

“It's not what you gather, but what you scatter, tells what kind of life you have lived...”
People who have a philosophy of abundance believe that there is plenty to go around, no
matter what it is. They don't hoard things because they know there's more where that came
from, whatever it is.
So, even we, teenagers, may experience abundance. As a matter of fact, I’ve experienced
abundance because my family used to share or donate things to those who are needy, who
experienced poverty. We are participating on some charity than can help people, especially when
there’s calamity my dad would never fail to remind us, “Pack your unneeded things”. Even
simple things, we give and we share. And in return, someone also shares love and care to me and
I would consider it abundance. The difference is just that, I was the one who receives. Because
my family never fail to show their care and love to me and also the “man above” who’s always
there to guide me. In this case, I feel so blessed because I had to experience this kind of life.

2. Research about Philippine entrepreneur and give at least two. Cite how their lives became
abundant.

There are many more successful Filipino entrepreneurs, whose businesses continue
to contribute positively to the Philippine economy. Like, Henry Sy and Tony Tan Caktiong.
On a further information, Henry Sy, the retail magnate who owns all established 33 SM
Malls and also a banking magnate who owns Banco De Oro-EPCI Bank and majority share
in China Bank and also the richest man in the Philippines. Believe it or not, Henry Sy’s story
was a ‘rags to riches’ kind of tale. Born in China, Henry Sy was not born with a silver spoon
in his mouth. Wanting to escape poverty, Henry followed his father to the Philippines only
to find out his miserable state in a foreign country. Determined to become successful, Henry
worked hard day and night to provide for his needs. He started out a small sari-sari store
business which has helped them in their day-to-day life. Sy and his father used to live in a
small space until the fruits of their labour made them successful in the passing years.

On the other hand, Tony Tan Caktiong, Known to be the man behind the country’s
famous bee, Tony Tan Caktiong is another rags-to-riches story – from owning a small ice
cream franchise, to heading some of the Philippines’ most famous food chains. When he was
22, Caktiong decided to shell out P350, 000 in an ice cream parlor franchise. He opened
Cubao Ice Cream House and Quiapo Ice Cream House. As their business becomes more and
more successful, they started to hire more people to help them manage it. Two years later, he
decided to serve hamburgers, fried chicken, and spaghetti as people began to tell him that
they don’t want to eat ice cream all the time. It was then that they decided to rebrand and
change their name to “Jollibee” as it represents them as a company, and the people that they
cater to – hardworking and happy.

With their inspiring story, we can learn about the ideals of success. Tony Tan
Caktiong and Henry Sy’s story tells us not to give up on our dreams, no matter how far-
fetched it seems. Who knows, maybe yours is the next success story to tell!
