It has been said that parents are the best teachers. Do you agree or disagree with
this statement?
This is a question that makes us debate many times with people around us. Does the
education our parents gave us exceed the education obtained in kindergarten? Usually
our parents or the people who raised us are the ones who taught us to speak before
anyone else. Also, our parents taught us basic habits like cleaning our bodies. Our
kindergarten teachers initially taught us to read and write. During our lives, both
teachers and parents play a very important role in our learning to adapt, solve problems,
especially the most important thing to survive. Scientific studies indicate that the first
years of life are crucial for children to fully develop their cognitive, linguistic,
emotional, and social skills.
Our parents taught us how to communicate in our first years of life. Possibly they were
the people with whom we shared the most time and learned by listening to them talk.
They also taught us to communicate by gestures because, for example, when you know
your parents well, you recognize when they don't like something. The most important
thing that our parents taught us was the rules of coexistence and respect with other
people. For these reasons, the presence of parents in the first years of children's lives is
very important.
Teachers are also indispensable in the education of a person. If children did not have
teachers, parents would be in serious trouble because they would have to teach their
children everything. Teachers also teach standards of coexistence in society. Children
often take their teachers as an example to follow because they admire them. The
teachers complement the education our parents give us to be better people and better
professionals.
We all need our parents and teachers to be present in childhood to learn better. In
situations where the child is only educated by his parents, he probably will not learn
much about science because his parents may not have enough time and knowledge to
teach. On the other hand, if he only receives an education from the teacher, the child
will probably have behavioral problems. In any case, it is essential that the child has an
education both at home and in kindergarten or at school.
In conclusion, it is not possible to determine if the education of parents is better than
that of teachers. What we can affirm is that the education of parents is complemented by
that of teachers. It is important that we all know this to impart an efficient education to
children and adolescents.
