Appetizer (Two Days)
1. Individually create a 5-6 page Children's book walking through the economic
development of the United States to a major industrial power.
+ Make mention of changes in landscape and growth of cities.
+ Effects of industrialization on living and working conditions
+ Reference the textbook and Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle for information.
+ These do not have to be presented before the class.
2. In a group of two to three people create a short movie (5-7 minutes) to be shown
in class.
- Go through the economic development of the United States to a major
industrial power.
- Make mention of changes in landscape and growth of cities.
- Effects of industrialization on living and working conditions
- Reference the textbook and Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle for information.
- These movies will be shown before the class.

Main Dish (One Day)


1. Imagine you are a journalist. Write an article giving an overview on politics
surrounding the Industrial Revolution and industry leaders. Also make mention of
the similarities and differences between Social Darwinism and Social Gospel.
This should be one page long.
+ Use the textbook and lectures as reference.
2. In a group of two to three create a quizlet on politics surrounding the Industrial
Revolution and industry leaders. Include the similarities and differences between
Social Darwinism and Social Gospel.
+ Use the textbook and lectures as reference.

Desert (One Day)


1. Download the Graphic Organizer. Complete two separate Graphic Organizers
that answer the following questions:
-Who were the Populists? What did they do?
-Who were the Progressives? What did they do?
Use the textbooks as reference.
2. Create two seperate posters that answer the following questions:
-Who were the Populists? What did they do?
-Who were the Progressives? What did they do?
Use the textbooks as reference.
These posters will be put up on the walls of the classroom.
