Welcome to the 2016-17 school year. I am so excited to have you in my Math 3 class and I am looking
forward to a great year. Math Course 3 is designed to give you the skills necessary to be successful in
high school mathematics. This year you will be learning topics in Algebra, Geometry and Statistics with
an emphasis on applications of these skills in real world problems and practice in critical thinking and
problem solving. As you can tell it will be a very full year.
Please read the information below to give you an idea of what I expect from you and what you can
expect from me.

Supplies:
It is important that you come to class prepared to participate. The supply list below should be with you
each day so that you can be ready to participate in all class activities.

 graph paper (1/4 inch grid please)

 sharpened pencils or mechanical pencils with a supply of lead
 2 highlighters: bring 2 different colors
 a continual supply of 8 ½ x11 inch binder paper (if a binder is your choice for taking notes
and organizing your handouts)
 a spiral notebook and folder for handouts (if this is choice for note taking and organizing
your materials)
 a Fallon Middle School Minder Binder
 scissors
 glue sticks
 white-board Markers
 ruler
 coloring tools (colored pencils, markers, or crayons)
 red pen for correcting

Textbook:
The Textbook for this course is the Glencoe California Math Course 3 Textbook. The textbook
resources consist of two consumable (paperback) volumes and on-line access. You will be given a
code to access the online textbook but you will also be responsible for bringing your paperback
textbook to class each day.

Room Entry Policy:

Upon entering the room, please present your homework for stamping.

Grading Procedure:
Grades are weighted by category. Classwork is your opportunity to practice content with peers and
homework is your opportunity to practice skills individually, but tests and quizzes make up 75% of your
grade. It is important that you complete all work and thoroughly prepare yourself for every assessment.

Homework (HW) Policy:

Mathematics is not a spectator sport. You learn by doing. HW will be assigned every night and
checked daily. If you are not able to solve a particular problem do not leave it blank. I expect you to try
every problem to the best of your ability and then thoroughly explain what is confusing you if you cannot
figure a problem out. Then please do not hesitate to ask for help in class the next day. Your
classmates will be grateful. I stamp HW daily and record weekly on Fridays. All stamped HW must be
shown on Friday for credit. Students can get HW assignments daily from 1) the whiteboard, 2) my
school voicemail, and 3) follow me on instagram.
Most HW is graded using the 5 point scale below. Your work must be shown in FULL. Your work
should be in the format of question, work, and answer.
1. Carefully read the question.
2. Show ALL your work.
3. Box/Circle your answer.

If you do not show all your work, you will not receive credit for the assignment. No Work=No Credit:

SHOWN.

Late Work Policy:

ALL ASSIGNMENTS CAN BE TURNED IN LATE FOR PARTIAL CREDIT. Students may turn in late
work up until the Unit Test has been given. To receive credit, students must complete the homework in
an AP session with me. Late work receives 60% credit.

Assessment Procedure: Assessments (Tests/Quizzes/Benchmarks) will be given periodically.

Tests may be able to be retaken if a student does not pass, in accordance with the Math Department
Retake Policy. Quizzes cannot be retaken.

Notes Policy:
You will be completing a math notebook with organized notes. Because this course covers numerous
mathematical concepts and ideas, you will be required to maintain your notebook. These notes will be
for your own reference. They will help you review and study new material.
Note-taking is how you actively participate in class and is essential to your learning. Your notebook can
be graded periodically. Directions for how to organize your notes will be given in class.

Absent Policy:
You are responsible for acquiring assignments while you were absent. Assignments can be found on
my Homework Hotline. Calling the school at 875-9376 followed by my extension 6384 will get you the
daily HW. Materials handed out while you were absent can be found in the WERE YOU ABSENT crate
in my classroom. You will have as many days as absent to complete the work for full credit. For
example, if you were absent for two days, you will have two days from when you returned to complete
the assignment(s). Classroom notes must also be made up. They can be copied from another student
in class. Once this is done, please feel free to ask me any questions regarding the material or
assignments that you do not understand. Also, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with any
activities missed while you were absent.

Cheating:
Cheating is NEVER acceptable and will result in a ZERO GRADE for all parties involved, whether it
involves class work, homework, or happens during an assessment.

Extra Help:
Please feel free to come and see me if you need extra help. I will be more than glad to help you. Here
are a couple ways to get extra help:
1. On TUESDAYS after school by appointment: I will stay after school on Tuesdays for
about an hour to help students with any questions they may have regarding the current
math curriculum. Students do not have to stay the entire time. If a scheduled student
does not arrive within 15 minutes after the last bell, I will cancel Extra Help for the day.
2. See me during ACADEMIC PREP. Get your minder binder stamped ahead of time.

Technology Policy:
There are times when you will use technology as part of our lesson but you will be given explicit
instructions to take it out. Do not take your phone out without permission. I follow the Fallon
technology policy to the letter. Any cell phone that is out and/or being used in class without explicit
permission will be confiscated and turned in to the office for pick up at the end of the day.
In addition, we are fortunate to have 1 to 1 Chromebooks available in our classroom. You will be asked
to sign a technology agreement and will be held responsible for proper use, handling and storing of the
Chromebooks. Misuse will result in the loss of Chromebook privileges.

Math Acceleration:
If acceleration is desired and the student is capable, the Math Department has analyzed data and
formulated a recommended pathway for potential acceleration. This recommended pathway for
acceleration upon successfully completing this course is to master Algebra 1 during the student’s
freshman year and to enroll in a Dublin High approved summer Geometry course between freshman
and sophomore year. This will allow students to enroll in Calculus senior year provided they meet all
pre-requisite math course requirements.
