Lesson This lesson is designed to build upon the knowledge of print concepts for children. Following a refresher lesson,
Summary:
the students will take the I Pads around the room to scan the QR codes. They will be matching the pictures which
will have print on them as well.
Estimated This lesson will take about two hours. I plan on dividing the lesson into five days, with three periods lasting 20
Duration: minutes and the last one lasting 40 minutes.
Instructional Procedures:
Day 1: For the first 20 minutes, we will listen to a song called, “Phonics Song 2” and then we will talk about it. I will ask
questions like, “what letter does banana start with?” I will write it on the board and each child will get a chance to
answer a question. I will also discuss with the students, which way you are supposed to read.
Day 2: The next 20 minutes, students will use the I Pads to trace letters on an app called, “ABC Kids.” We will go through
the letters together as a class. The students will tell me what the letters are and then they will trace them with their
finger. Once we get through the alphabet, we will be done with this day’s lesson.
Day 3: For the next 20 minutes, the children will continue with the app, “ABC Kids.” On that app, there is also a game
where it will have four balloons and it will say something like, “touch the letter F” and once the child pushes on that it
will give them a picture of something that starts with that letter, an example is “Frog.” The children will be working on
this themselves. After they finish the activity, that will be the end of the lesson for this day.
Day 4: Now that the children have an idea of what letters are, what words are, and to read them from left to right, the
last 40 minutes will consist of the QR codes. When the children walk in the room, they will come sit at circle time. I will
explain to them what we are doing and how we are going to scan QR codes around the room. I will show them how to
do it. All they need to do is look at the I Pad, click on one of the pictures, and then scan the QR code on the paper
hanging around the room. They can look at the letters and the picture. My hope for this lesson is that they will learn that
words have meaning and that they will learn to read from left to right. Throughout this lesson they also learn phonics
and word sounds.

This site is where students can find fun, educational games. Since we are learning about print awareness and meaning, if
you go to Reading/Writing and then the preschool tab, they could find matching and letter games. There are also tons of
worksheets that can be printed out for your child to complete at home or at school.
Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the
needs of gifted or accelerated students:
Students who are struggling with the activities will partner up with either another student in the class that is very
knowledgeable about the subject.
Vocabulary: Bus, car, girl, boy, house, cat, dog, bear, pencil
