When asking for more responsibility, a raise, or promotion, the most important thing to discuss is focusing on the future and your performance and impact. You should project confidence, competence, and professionalism. Explain how you are invested in the company and want to contribute to its growth. Communicate your reasons for wanting more clearly while avoiding personal reasons and sticking to your work accomplishments. Build trust in the relationship through respect, learning about the other person, and sharing information about mutual interests.

When asking your manager for more responsibility, a raise or a promotion, the
most important thing to discuss is ________________. Explain why and how you
will communicate this?

When asking your manager for more responsibility, a raise or a promotion, the most
important thing to discuss is talk about the future.

1) Make a strong impression by projecting confidence, competence, preparedness and

professionalism. You can do all this by the way you talk and communicate .Like you
don’t have to pretend what you are but by the professionalism you can show him
that how much worthy you are.

2) Then you can use the halo effect for your advantage. Show you’re invested in the
company. Every manager values loyalty. Start the conversation on a positive note,
and explain how much you like working for your manager and the company. Then
explain what you want to do in the future, and how you plan to contribute to grow
the business. In halo effect you highlight your one skill so that employer mind gives
him signal that other qualities would also be good in him. He can show his loyalty
and hardworking nature for making a halo effect

3) Then you need to communicate clearly to reduce the risk of misunderstandings. You
can tell him that you need a promotion or a raise and the reasons. Before you can
convince your boss that you deserve a raise, you need to believe that you’ve earned
it. The best approach to asking for a raise is to focus on deserving one versus
needing one. Too often, people argue that a raise is important because of very real
costs in their lives; however, an employer is looking to give raises to people based on
performance. Everyone would like to make more money, but don’t bring up personal
reasons like your rent increasing, needing to plan an expensive birthday party etc.
Stick to discussing your performance and impact.

4) Treat your counterpart with respect and courtesy and respect is most important in
every communication at whatever position you are. You need to be polite to
everyone including the lower and upper staff.
5) Then show interest in your colleague by getting to know him as an individual. You
need to research on him what are his likes and dislikes and what he favours the most
etc.

6) Pay attention to non- verbal communication- both the other party’s and your own.
And non-verbal communication could be your gestures and body language etc.

7) Now separate personality issues from practical ones. You and your mind need to be
at office and at the work there not somewhere else

8) Avoid negative words and characteristics that could harm the relationship. It includes
that if he says no just don’t argue that much. You can show more hardwork the next
time and can communicate sometimes else when you feel his mood is good

9) Build trust to keep the relationship strong and good

10) Share information about interests to increase the likelihood to a win-win agreement.
The most important thing is consistently exceed expectations in terms of her current
role and job responsibilities. Always take on more than was expected of her, and
managed these projects as well as her more senior colleagues. Don’t wait to share all
of your accomplishments at once. Proactively communicate your accomplishments.
Moral of the story? Share your accomplishments early and often.
