9C Twitter trouble

A Complete the text with the adjectives of the words in brackets.

When it comes to 1 (USE) talents,

diplomacy perhaps isn't one of this beauty queen's strong
points.

Jean-Sun Hannah Ahn, 22, was crowned Miss Seattle on

Saturday but unfortunately her new-found celebrity led to
some 2 (OFFENSE) comments about her
home town being dug up from her Twitter account. The
student, who attended Arizona State University, tweeted
in December, ‘Ew, I seriously am hating Seattle right now.’
Another post added, ‘Ugh can't stand cold, 3 (RAIN)
Seattle and the annoying people.’

However, Miss Ahn said she was just complaining about the 4 (DISAGREE) weather, like any
Seattle resident, and didn't mean that people in the city were annoying. She told a 5 (REGION)
radio station that she made the 6 (HURT) remarks while in a transition period three months
ago when she was missing friends and Arizona’s 7 (SUN) climate. She apologised and said
that she hadn’t given 8 (CARE) thought to her tweets and that any offense caused was not
9
(INTENTION).

The 10 (REGRET) mistake appears to have taught the beauty queen a 11

(VALUE) lesson in public relations. She tweeted today, ‘I really do love Seattle ... the summers are to die for.’

B Discuss the questions in pairs. Give reasons and details.

1 If you were a Seattle resident, would you have been offended by Miss Ahn’s tweets?
2 Can you think of other celebrities who have posted something on Twitter and regretted it?
3 Have you or anyone you know ever posted a comment or sent an email/text and then wished you hadn’t?

C Complete the questions with the adjectives of the words in brackets. Ask and answer the questions in pairs. Give
reasons and details.
1 Were you when you were a child? (MISCHIEF)
2 Should the government make it more for students to attend university? (AFFORD)
3 Which of your friends has the most face? (EXPRESS)
4 Are you usually when you wake up in the mornings? (GRUMP)
5 Do you know anyone with an talent? (EXCEPTION)
6 Would you rather go on holiday somewhere or bustling? (PEACE)
7 What can be done to help people? (HOME)
8 What’s the most thing you’ve ever done? (ADVENTURE)
