Pupils." Unpublished Action Research, College of Education - Graduate

Abstract

This action research sought to determine the effectiveness of pedagogical stylistics

in language performance of Grade VI pupils. The study was conducted at Bancal

Elementary School, Alimodian, Iloilo from February 24 to March 7, 2014. Twenty-six

pupils served as participants in the study wherein they were exposed to varied

literary pieces and stylistic analyses.

The study involved quantitative measure. As quantitative research, it employed

the Pre – Experimental design. Within the limitation of Pre – Experimental, the one-

group pretest-posttest control group design was utilized (Fraenkel and Wallen, 2006)

wherein a single group which is the Grade VI – Amethyst of Bancal Elementary

School for the S.Y. 2013-2014 was measured not only after being exposed to a

treatment which is the pedagogical stylistics, but also before. The scores of the

pupils were analyzed using frequency, mean, and standard deviation for descriptive

statistics. For inferential statistics, the Wilcoxon-Signed Ranks Test was used to look

into significant differences in the English Language Performance of Grade VI Pupils

Before and After Intervention.

Results showed that there was a significant difference in the English Language

Performance of Grade VI pupils before and after the intervention. Pupils' posttest

scores increased from their pretest scores after the intervention was done. This

means that pedagogical stylistics is effective in enhancing the level of English

performance of pupils.
