CHAPTER 8 - SONG ANALYSIS SHEET no. 1


“Mga Kababayan Ko” 

Instruction: Listen to the attached video of the song. On the spaces provided, write your short
thematic interpretation on the lyrics situating yourself under the COVID-19 Quarantine
(ECQ/GCQ/MGCQ)  

I. Mga kababayan ko
Dapat lang malaman nyo
Bilib ako sa kulay ko
Ako ay pilipino
Kung may itim o may puti
Mayron naman kayumangi
Isipin mo na kaya mong
Abutin ang yung minimithi

The singer is stating that he is proud with his skin colour and to be a Filipino. On the last two
lines, he said that we can reach what we aspire to get. Just like during this pandemic, we can all
get through this if we think and act. Prayers is not enough without action. Discipline is also a
must to shorten the span of this quarantine.

II.

Ang trabaho mo pagbutihin mo
Dahil pag gusto mo ay kaya mo
Kung kaya mo ay kaya nya
At kaya nating dalawa
Magaling ang atin
Yan ang laging iisipin
Pag-asenso mararating

Umaahon ka wag lumubog
Pagka't ginhawa naman ang susunod
Iwasan mo ang ingit
Ang sa iba'y ibig mong makamit
Dapat nga ika'y matuwa sa napala ng iyong kapatid
Ibig kong ipabatid
Na lahat tayo'y kabig-bisig

It states that if we want to get or achieve something, we must work harder for it. Correlating with
this pandemic, if we want to end this as soon as possible then we must focus and be responsible
for our actions. We should not let ourselves be drowned with problems, instead let us look on the
bright side that after all of this challenges, it will all be worth it. Although we won’t be back to
the normal days, at least we are able to survive this threatening virus. And if ever we knew
someone who became successful, we should be glad for them and for what they achieved. The
lesson in these lyrics is that instead of competing, we should hand in hand help each other. Unity
will aid us get through this.

III.
Respetuhin natin ang ating ina

Kailangan ay magmahalan
Dapat lang ay pag-usapan ang hindi nauunawaan

Gumitna ka at wag kumampi
Lahat tayoy magkakapatid
Anong mang mali ay ituwid
Magdasal sa Diyos Maykapal

Sa bayan ko at sa buong mundo

We should listen to the advices and sermons given by our parents. Instead of quarrelling, we
should love our siblings. During this pandemic, most of us is with our families. This pandemic
will never be a blessing but it enables us to be closer with our families. When we have problems
with one another, it is better to talk it out so it won’t be further affect our daily lives.

The “wag takas ang pagkukulang, kasalanan ay panagutan” is a statement for the government.
Corruption should be stopped. Instead of government officials using it for their personal interest,
the money should be used for the people especially for the medical staffs who are currently
fighting to save us all. There are thousands of people dying every day without receiving any aid
that was supposed to be coming from the government. The government should be held liable for
its incompetence.

I don’t agree with his lyrics that we should be neutral in a situation for being neutral is just a
playing safe action that really sides with the oppressor. We should always dedicate our actions to
God. This pandemic may be life threatening, but by having faith towards Him and disciplining
ourselves will manage us to keep going and survive.

BIG QUESTION: As a Filipino citizen, what are the simple yet purposeful acts that you
can do to contribute for the nation’s development? (COVID-19 ECQ, MGCQ set up).
Provide 2 acts. 

The first act is being obedient. It is necessary to follow the rules, regulations, and protocols given
by the government. They are given so this virus would not further spread and so everyone would
be kept safe and healthy. Filipinos should not be stubborn. When told to wear mask and keep
social distancing, they should follow. Our government officials should to. There is no special
treatment for them. They are elected because people saw capabilities in them. When all citizens
is obedient, then our nation would continuously progress.

The second act is being responsible. When given a task, it should be done right away. Now in the
Philippines, when the government is given money to be distributed as financial assistance for the
citizens, they should do it responsibly. The problem with government officials here in the
Philippines is that they would put their interest first before the citizens. This should be changed.
On the other hand, the responsibility of the citizens is that they should vote for officials who will
really do their job. If the Philippines did not have corrupt officials even long before, we should
have been successful just like other countries. This can still change if we put time to learn our
rights.
