Job description of qualified personnel work in medical gas plant

(centralized gas system)


In the production room there must be qualified personnel such are
Engineers, technicians and porters that operates and controls the plant.
The engineers and technicians are biomedical, electrical and mechanical.
The role of those engineers and technicians classified based on their
professions and their desired task. They run the plant either in
collaborate way or in individual manner based on the task or the
operation. They also operate the plant by scheduled program in day and
night time within a week for 24 hours to save live.
Qualified personnel
These are people by virtue of their education, knowledge and trains can
access the work done and recognize the possible dangers involved to
both patients and medical gas plant. Needed personals are engineers,
technicians and porter’s (manual workers).
Authorized operator’s passes the following specifications

 Conserving with and adhere to the safety instructions and sections


of the service manuals and national safety regulators relevant to
operation
 Trained on human physiological requirements and basic
knowledge life of supporting machines
 conversant with safety concepts and regulations of electrical and
compressed air device
 Additional trains for composer’s and compressed air dryers and
other areas.
 Able to recognize possible dangers of central gas system on
patients health
 Able to recognize the possible dangers of electrical and comprised
air device and take appropriate measures to safe properties in the
room.
 Punctuality and discipline

Engineer’s tasks

1. Plan and schedule plant out puts to meet required and intended result
2. Prepare and lay out overall plant guide lines and working principles
3. preparing checklist for inspection and preventive maintenance
4. preparing time report documentation
5. Fulfil Conditional requirement’s necessary to carry out the task
within the production room
6. Manage and control productions of oxygen, medical gas and vacuum
7. Setting and adjusting machine working hours and durations
8. Out putting important operational states of the medical gas plant and
machines
9. Control and guarantee that precise and appropriate amount medical
gases is reaching at patients side and required amount is entering life
supporting devices(ventilator, anesthesia and breathing circuit)
10. Inspecting, interpreting and rectifying problems regarding central
gas system
11. Inspect and check operating condition of the supply station and the
gas pressure applied to each area where the gas is in use
12. Inspect and interpret analog and digital data displays on the gauge
and displays of production room machineries
13. Performing inspections and Preventive Maintenances according to
the schedule
 air compressors , dryers and air separators
 Medical gas generators
 Vacuum pumps
 Filling RIXs
 manifold
 Regulators, flow meters
14. Checking master alarm room (if there is a problem try to fix or if
it is impossible inform to the company and make solution)
15. Trace the gas flow from the source, following the pipelines, to the
various outlets (headwalls), and displays from
Main, riser, service and zonal valves
Master and zonal areal alarms
16. Inspect and check for blown components, indicator color changes
unnecessary sounds and error messages that generate from the
production room and try to fix or report to the company also record it
in time report.
17. Fix and maintain the defect medical gas system medical devices.
18. Maintain devices related to medical gasses and ensure stable
supply of medical gases.
19. Manage and control manifold systems.
20. Control and conform the quality of oxygen product, regulated
input pressure from environment in oxygen generators control panel
and the compressor respectively
21. Making product optimization equalizing supply and demand of
oxygen cylinders with in the hospital
22. Electrical inspection, checking electrical connections tightness
operating conditions and check electrical power supply.
23. Doing inspection for
vacuum and Medical air pump’s daily, like;
 Check unusual noise / vibration/
 Check the reading on display
 Check if there is an overheating condition
 Inspect them for air leaks
24. Doing inspection for
sensors of oxygen,co2,co,temperature & overheating shut down
25. Perform preventive
maintenance for oil less rotary vane system
26. Doing inspection for air
compressor daily
27. Doing preventive
maintenance daily , weekly , quarterly and monthly;
 Check oil levels indicators (daily)
 Inspect motors /pump fan / (monthly)
 Inspect the filter cartridge (quarterly)
 Check and clean air inlet (quarterly)
 Check oil in pumps according to the manual
 Check the vans (quarterly)
 inspect and clean supply & exhaust fans (quarterly)
 Inspect and greases the bearing lubrications
 Check receiver for condensate , drain if required
(daily)
 Clean the exterior of unit (weekly)
 Clean the air cooled after cooler (weekly)
 Inspect safety valves
 Inspect and tighten screws (monthly)
 Inspect all belts and couplings
28. If there is faulty within a machine component informing the
company and finding the solution
29. manage the filling station cylinders
30. Control and Check Filling process of cylinder with a proper PSI (if
it is pediatric(portable cylinder) 1500 psi otherwise 2000 psi)
31. Manage porters and configure oxygen delivery systems
32. Giving user training and creating awareness for the nurses, doctors
and other medical professionals using the central gas system
33. Collaborate and communicate with medical staffs in the hospital
found in each wards and department.

Technician’s tasks
1. Assist engineers in controlling, monitoring and testing technical
procedures.
2. Test and check cylinder production.
3. Troubleshoot problems with equipment.
4. Monitor and adjust production process.
5. Prepare and assemble materials
6. Plan and layout to meet production and schedule requirement
7. Provide production, progress or changeover report to the engineers.
8. Setup and processing equipment
9. Install new equipment and apparatus in the room.
10. Create maintain and repair the electronic component and
equipment used in any equipment.
11. Strongly ability to define problems determine facts and draw
accurate conclusions
12. Check equipment and operating systems and correct whoever
necessary
13. Ensure operations, standards and control are maintained at high
quality
14. Show expertize in working with team and independently
15. Collaborate with clinical staff to identify problems.
INSPECTION AND PREVANTIVE MAINTENACE SCHEDULE

Daily Before starting


Clean the exterior of unit
Visually check for color changes
Check the exterior for damages
Inspect the oil level indicator
Check air filter service indicator
For compressors with PDX filter-check the service indicator replace the
filter necessarily
Inspect for noncontact voltage indicator readings
Check the filter element of the electric cabinet (if fitted)-replace if
necessarily

Daily During operation


Check readings on the displays and gauges
Check for unusual noise/vibration
Check the condensate is draining
During operation check the oil level

Inspect the operation of the condensate trap


Check safety valve is operating
Drain the condensate from the air receiver after end

Quarterly 500 hour


Remove and inspect the air filter clean if necessarily
Replace damaged or heavily contaminated element
Check conditions of belts
Check for possible leaks

Quarterly 1000 hour


Check the tension and the condition of the belt .adjust if necessary
Switch off voltage and check terminals in electrical cabinet for tightness

Have all flexible lines inspected


Inspect the oil cooler, clean if necessary
Inspect the condenser of the dryer; clean if necessary
Remove, dismantle and clean float valve of moisture trap
Check that condensate is discharged when pressing the test button on top
water drain (if fitted)
Quarterly 4000 hour
If atlas copc (recommended) roto-inject fluid is used, change oil and oil
filter
Replace air filter element
Replace the filter element of the electric cabinet (where applicable)
clean coolers
Sample oil and send analysis
Check pressure and temperature readings
Carry out a LED/display test
Check for leakages
Open the manual drain valve to clean the filter of the automatic drain

Test temperature shut-down function


Quarterly 8000 hour
If atlas copoc (recommended) roto-extend duty fluid is used .change oil
and oil filter. Sample oil and send for analysis replace the separator
element
Remove dismantle and clean float valve of condensate separator

Have air inlet valve and minimum pressure valve inspected by atlas
copoc
Replace belts
Have safety valve tested
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERS DUTIES AND
