*Laser energy occurs when a high energy atom collides with a photon leading to an accelerated

transition to a low energy state.

Argon Laser

Can be used for Otosclerosis surgery

Can be emitted through fiberoptic cables

*Advantages in Otosclerosis surgery:

-Bloodless fenestra

-Reduced risk of footplate subluxation

-Precise cuts in the footplate without disturbing the Otosclerotic focus.

CO2 Laser (Visible)

-CO2 laser emits a beam of light of 10.6 mm – infrared

-Can seal BVs up to 0.5 mm
-Cannot be transmitted via fiberoptic cables.
-When used you need to have the inspired O2 less than 40% during endotracheal intubation to avoid
ignition
-Not the best for wound healing
-High surgical precision in the tracheobronchial tree
-Can be used as a small dot

-Used for Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis

-Can be used in subglottic hemangioma
-CO2 laser can be used to provide precise dermabrasion in the treatment of rhinophyma
-Used in amyloid of the larynx
KTP/ >

Can be used for polyposis to reduce blood loss

Zenker Diverticulum
Endonasal laser assisted DCR
Used in middle ear surgery, directed via a prism

YAG > (Visible)

Can be delivered through fiberoptic cables

For subglottic hemangioma (Photocoagulation of vascular lesions)

For Osler Weber Syndrome
Palliation of obstructing tracheobronchial lesions
