Trigger: Measurement Cursors

The oscilloscope front panel contains vertical, horizontal, and trigger sections. The trigger synchronizes measurements with the input signal. The vertical controls position and scale the waveform vertically using position and volts per division settings. Horizontal controls position and scale the waveform horizontally using position and seconds per division settings. Cursors measure time period and amplitude, while the measure button enables selecting frequency and amplitude measurements.

The front panel of an oscilloscope is divided into three main sections labelled vertical, horizontal and

trigger.

Trigger:

The purpose of trigger is to synchronise scope's measurement cycle with an input signal.

Vertical Control:

Use the vertical controls to position and scale the waveform vertically.

Position:

The vertical position control lets you move the waveform up or down to exactly where you want it on
the screen.

Volts per Division:

The volts per division setting varies the size of the waveform on the screen.

Input Coupling:

Here input coupling is the connection from your test circuit to the oscilloscope.

The coupling can be set to AC, DC or ground. DC coupling shows all of an output signal. AC coupling
blocks the DC components and centres the waveform at zero volts.

Horizontal Controls:

Use the horizontal controls to position and scale the waveforms horizontally.

Position and Seconds per Division:

The horizontal position control moves the waveform left and right.

The seconds per division setting lets you select the rate at which the waveform is drawn across the
screen.

MEASUREMENT CURSORS
Cursor Key:

Use the cursor key to measure time period and peak to peak amplitude of the waveform.

Measure Button:

By pressing measure button, a wide selection of measurement possibilities displays at the right side of
the screen from where we can select a frequency measurement and an amplitude measurement that
will be applied to the active channel.
