Free Space Propagation Model: Muhammad Aqeel CU-161-2016 Section (A) Engr: Khalid Rehman

Free space propagation model predicts signal strength between a transmitter and receiver with line of sight in an empty environment. The model assumes transmit and receive antennas located without obstacles. The power received (Pr) at a distance (d) is calculated using Pr(d)=Pr(do)(do/d)2, where Pr(do) is the power received at a reference distance do. Any radiating antenna launches electric and magnetic fields. At distances far from the transmitter, the electrostatic and inductive fields become negligible and only the radiation field remains.

FREE SPACE PROPAGATION MODEL

INTRODUCTION:
Free space propagation model is used to
predict signal strength when the transmitter
and receiver have a clear line of sight between EQUATION:
satellite communication. The free space
w = pT Gt/ (4 p d2). where A is the effective area or `aperture' of
propagation model assumes a transmit antenna the antenna, with GR = 4p A / l2. The wavelength l is c / fc with
and a receive antenna to be located in an c the velocity of light and fc the carrier frequency. The product

earth surface is assumed to be entirely.

WORKING:
Any radiating structure produces electric and
magnatic fields.
• Its current flows through such anteena and
launches electric and magnatic fields.
• The electrostatic and inductive fields decay
much faster with distance then the radiation
field.
• At regions far way from transmitter,
The electrostatic and inductive fields becomes
negligible.
