Section 6: Teacher Candidate Teacher Interview Video

Teacher Candidate Interview Video

In this section of my portfolio, I put together a mock interview using screencast. This

mock interview assisted me in reflecting on all my accomplishments I have obtained throughout

my educational career and pinpoint which ones best highlight my ability to be an effective

elementary school teacher. In the video, I talk about these experiences and the steppingstones

that have gotten me to where I am today and the accomplishments, I am most proud of. I

provide information on my background experiences working in childcare centers and my

experiences working in Elementary schools as a supply teacher for grades JK-8. I also touch on

my experiences of working as a Child Life Specialist in medical care settings. I review some of

the teaching trends that I have found to be most interesting and coincide with my own personal

beliefs around child development. I have shared this video on my class website, so you and

future parents will be able to view this video so they can get to know me a little bit better

personally and professionally.

Interview Questions

In this section of the portfolio project, I have put together a mock interview to showcase

my interview skills and my educational accomplishments that I have done to date in my career.

The mock interview will serve two crucial components. One, it will give you an explicit insight

to show you my interviewing skills and how I present my ideas to others. And two, it will assist

me in reflecting and reviewing on the material I have presented throughout my portfolio picking

out the activities and experiences I feel are the best to highlight my abilities as an educator. The

following are the questions that I will be answering in my video.

Teacher Candidate Interview Questions & Responses

 Briefly share a little about your background experiences that have led you to choose a

career in education.

I have had a diverse range of experiences when it comes to working with children and families. I

started my career in education when I graduated with my Early Childhood Education diploma in

2015 and then worked in an infant room for a year covering a maternity leave. Passionate about

child development and my studies I returned to school for my bachelor’s degree in Early

Childhood Leadership. I have an internship portion where I applied to work at the Children’s

hospital as a Child Life Specialist and provided preparation distraction and treatment play plans

for sick children. I knew I wanted to be a teacher and that’s how I became to start at Medaille

College.

 What have you learned in your teaching program at Medaille, that will make you an

excellent classroom teacher and colleague?

Even though I have been working in the field of education for over six years and have extensive

experience working with children and families in diverse care settings. Medaille has provided me

with innovative skill sets that I can transfer into my own teaching practice and classroom

environment. I have learned initiatives like SMART board presentations and how to implement

diverse technological equipment into curriculum in authentic ways. I am able to transfer these

skills learned and add them to my professional toolkit to benefit future students and families in

my care.
 Provide us with an example of a lesson you have taught. How did you address student

engagement and motivation? What were the results of the lesson?

Throughout my time at Medaille, I have completed endless lesson plans involving multiple

methods of learning. One of my favorite lessons was a literacy learning segment that includes

three interrelated lesson plans revolving around different literacy strategies to enhance students’

capacities as readers and writers. They all revolve around a popular children’s book that model

diverse social emotional student led initiatives.

 Why should we hire you instead of other applicants we have interviewed?

I am born to be a teacher and a leader. I have extensive qualifications, knowledge and experience

to bring to your school district. I am a team player and take pride in my differentiation skills and

well as social emotional learning skills. I want to reconceptualize education and steer head

what’s needed in education – now in the present day. Give me a chance, I promise I won’t let

you down.

Conclusion

In this section I provided an outline of what you will view on my mock interview. I

touched on my background experience and my journey into becoming an educator. I review my

extensive education qualifications, knowledge and skill set needed to perform effectively as a

teacher going into the field of education. I state lessons learned from Medaille College and

steppingstones it has took to get me where I am today. It is my wish that this video gives you,

insight on who I am as an educator and as a human being.
