Manufacturing Instructions SN 200-7/ A1: Corrosion Protection
Revision A1
Foreword
This company standard contains amendments to SN 200-7:2016-05 which have proven necessary in the application of
the standard.
Amendments
Section 4.3 on component faces in steel, cast steel and cast iron
The entire wording in section 4.3 shall be replaced with the wording below; the text shown against a colored background has
been revised as against the May 2016 (2016-05) edition of SN 200-7:
Unless otherwise specified in the manufacturing documents, all surfaces in steel, cast steel and cast iron shall always be
provided with a coat for permanent corrosion protection according to item 5.1.
To allow tracing back of the various (base, intermediate and cover) coats, the coats shall be in different colors.
This applies except for parts screw-fastened to and/or protruding into vessels/tanks and for contact and functional faces of
components. These parts/faces shall always be provided with temporary corrosion protection as in section 5.2.
Notice:
Contact or functional faces are surfaces of a component which act together with other component surfaces, or which are
relevant for the function of the component. Contact surfaces and functional surfaces are surfaces produced either by
machining and/or by bright drawing.
The entire wording in section 4.5.1.1 shall be replaced with the wording below; the text shown against a colored background
has been revised as against the May 2016 (2016-05) edition of SN 200-7:
To avoid ingress of cooling lubricants during the machining of components, the components shall always be provided with a
base coat before machining.
Depending on the degree of damage to the prime coat caused by finish-machining or welding, the prime coat shall be
repaired or newly applied. The weld areas shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove the alkaline or acid constituents of the filler
metals and to avoid their destructive effects.
After preparation of the component surface, the first prime coat shall be applied within 6 hours to avoid new formation of rust.
When the surface is prepared by pickling in a phosphoric acid bath, the coat shall be applied not earlier than after 48 hours to
avoid chemical changes of the coating material.
The external coating of pipework, vessels/tanks and follow-up spares shall be made only with a base coat according to
table 2. Spare parts for X-Roll ® Oil Bearing shall be coated as specified in section 4.3 (base coat and cover coat).
Pipework shall not be provided with internal coating. At the fitting ends of pipelines, 200 mm shall be left without corrosion
protection coat.

been revised as against the May 2016 (2016-05) edition of SN 200-7:
Unless otherwise specified in the manufacturing documents, temporary corrosion protection shall be provided according to
table 3
- on parts screw-fastened to tanks/vessels and protruding inside, by means of coating system T.I.W.1 - L.W.1.+40;
- on contact surfaces and internal functional surfaces, by means of coating system T.I.W.1 - L.W.1.+40,;
- on external functional surfaces, by means of the coating system T.I.W.1 - L.W.1.+40, T.I.W.2 - L.W.2.+40; or T.I.W.2 -
L.W.2.+90. The coating system shall be selected as required for transport and storage upon consultation with SMS
group.
- on contact and functional faces of components intended for intermediate storage and/or for short-time shipment, with the
coating system T.I.W.1- L.K.0.+40
Annex B (informative) shows a table of the coating materials which can be used. The use of technically comparable coating
materials is allowed provided they fulfill the requirements of SN 274-2.
