Travel and Setup


o Load and boom lowered
o Use tag lines, unless creates an unsafe condition
o A clearance of at least 10’ (15’ preferred) from
overhead utilities
o Spotters
Do not use wire rope as a tag line!

Overhead Wires
Shall be considered energized unless electrical utility indicate not
energized AND it has been visibly grounded.

Crane-Suspended Personnel Platforms

Platform Specifications
u Grab rail inside perimeter of platform
u Access gates swing outwards and must
have restraining device
u Adequate headroom for employees
u Hard hats must be worn
u Rough edges exposed to contact
must be smooth

Personnel Platform Loading


t Do not load beyond capacity
t Materials/tools need to be evenly distributed within the confines
of the platform while suspended
t Do not use platform as a hoist for any material or tool

The ground becomes electrified around the point of electrical contact in a


rippling pattern known as “ground gradient.” As you move away from the
point of contact, the voltage drops progressively. However, if one foot is
at y voltage and the other at z voltage, the difference in voltage will cause
a flow of electricity through the body.
