18th INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION PREMIO CITTA’ DI PADOVA 2020

The Competition will take place in Padova - Italy in Teatro-Auditorium Collegio Vescovile
Barbarigo, (address: Via del Seminario 5/A) from June 8th to June 14th 2020.
The prizewinners concert will take place on June 14th 2020 at 8 p.m. in the Teatro-Auditorium
Collegio Vescovile Barbarigo, in Padova Via del Seminario 5/A, for Finalists category E and
Virtuositè Prize.
The application deadline is May 4th 2020.
This competition is divided in following sections: Piano, String Instruments, Wind Instruments,
Chamber Music, Piano four hands, Voice. Every section is divided in categories according to
competitors age.
All the advanced category winners - Cat. E (first prizes 98/100 score) will take part in a further
stage (FINAL STAGE). This stage will proclaim the first, second, third and fourth prize winners
of the 18th International Music Competition “Premio Città di Padova”, acquiring the offered
prizes (concerts and cashprizes). The final stage music program has to be completely different
from the first round.

GENERAL RULES
Art. 1 - The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities and background. The competition
purpose is to select musicians with high professional qualities to be introduced in national and
international concert circuit. The winners will be included in XXVIII International Concert Season
2020-2021 (october-april) of Padova Music Association AGIMUS in Padova and/or Rome, Venice,
Perugia, Abano Terme and in other main italian cities for the most important concert institutions.

Art. 2 - The application form has to be sent by e-mail IN DOC or PDF FILE to the Competition
Secretary not later than May 4th 2020 (deadline) at the following address:

The application form must be completed with the following documents:
- copy of the Identity Document;
- biography (only for advanced cat. E)
- music scores copies (to be sent by e-mail) in case the competitor requires staff piano accompanist. In
this case the competitors have to communicate their music program to the Competition Secretary,
which will demand music score copies if needed. The Competition Art Direction reserves the right to
require the competitor who intends to use the staff piano accompanist to make changes in his music
program. Music scores copies has to be sent by deadline, May 4th 2020. 2 copies of music scores that
has to be shown to the jury are not to be sent with the application, but only exhibited before the
audition (see Art.4);
- photocopy of application fee payment (including the piano accompanist fee that has to be added to
the application fee and paid by only one bank transfer).
The payment has to made by bank transfer.

Any bank fees on transfers will be paid by the participants.
The application fee and piano accompanist fee will not be refunded in case of competitor’s withdrawal.
The application form will not be accepted without the attached receipt.

Art. 3 - From May the 23rd 2020 the complete audition timetable will be determined. It will be
possible to consult it on the AGIMUS Association web site (www.agimuspadova.com) or by Secretary
e-mail ([email protected]).
In any case, the secretary office will send the audition timetable to each competitor by e-mail by 23
May 2020. In the application form it is obligatory to indicate an e-mail address and a mobile phone
number clearly legible.

Art 4 - All the competitors before the audition are supposed to show to the jury a valid document
(identity card or passport) and 2 copies of music scores (music scores does not have to be sent by e-
mail).

Art. 5 - The audition music program is free choice. Competitors may enter in category higher than
their age, if they consider that their preparation adequate. The competitors who decide to apply in
several sections, against payment of respective application fees (for example Premio Virtuositè and
Soloists and Orchestra) are supposed to perform a completely different music program for each
section.
The E category competitors admitted to the final stage will perform a 15-20 minutes repertoire,
completely different from the first round.

Art. 6 - The competitors may require the staff piano accompanist against payment of extra charge fee
that has to be paid together with the application fee in only one bank transfer (see Art.10). The extra
charge fee has to reach the competition secretary with all the application documentation and
music score copies not later than May 4th 2020 (only for competitors who received the demand
for music scores by the Competition Secretary).

A - ages up to 10: the music program is free choice of max. 5 minutes lenght
B - ages up to 14: the music program is free choice of max. 10 minutes lenght
C - ages up to 18: the music program is free choice of max. 15 minutes lenght
D - ages up to 22: the music program is free choice of max. 15 minutes lenght
E (advanced category) - ages 23 - 38: max. 15 minutes lenght

FINAL STAGE (only for 98/100 score first prize winners): max. 15-20 minutes lenght (the music
program has to be completely different from the first round).

Categories (about Sections 4 - Chamber Music, 5 - Piano four hands)


A - average age 10: max. 5 minutes lenght
B - average age 14: max. 10 minutes lenght
C - average age 18: max. 15 minutes lenght
D - average age 22: max. 15 minutes lenght
E (advanced category) - average age 23 - 38: max. 15 minutes lenght

FINAL STAGE (only for 98/100 score first prize winners): max. 15-20 minutes lenght

D - ages 16 - 23: the music program is free choice of max. 10 minutes lenght
E (advanced category) - ages 24 - 38: the music program is free choice of max. 15 minutes lenght

FINAL STAGE CAT. E (only for 98/100 score first prize winners): max. 15-20 minutes lenght
(the music program has to be completely different from the first round).

For all the categories the music program is free choice. It is not allowed to overcome the maximum
playing time expected. The length indication in their application form must be correct and observe the
actual execution time.

Art. 9 - RESULTS
The competitors first prize winners in the first stage of advanced category (Cat. E) with a 98/100 score
will be admitted to the second stage (final stage). The jury might decide to advance even the
competitors first prize winners with lower score. In the final stage the jury will award the winner of
“Premio Città di Padova” and the second, third and fourth prize winners.

The prize concert winners will perform in Italy and abroad in important and prestigious concert
seasons and cities as Rome, Venice, Padova, Perugia, Abano Terme.

Art. 11 - The jury may decide to assign prize concerts to other competitors particulary worthy, chosen
from the categories and sections of the Competition. They will perform in XXVIII International
Concert Season 2020/2021 of Padova Music Association AGIMUS.

Art. 12 - In case of ex-aequo score, the awards and concerts will be split up. The partecipation
conditions concerning the concert prizes will be accorded directly with each Music Foundation.

Art. 13 - The invitation letters for foreign competitors will be sent only after the application fee
payment.

Art. 14 - All the winners are bound to take part in the final concert at the end of the Competition. The
Gala-Concert will be held on June 14th 2020 at 8,00 p.m. in Teatro-Auditorium Collegio Vescovile
Barbarigo, in Padova, Via del Seminario 5/A, in the old part of Padova city. The Gala-Concert will
be reserved for the Finalists of category E and The Virtuositè Prize winners.
The winners that don’t take part in this gala-concert will lose the awards and concert prizes.

Art. 15 - Diplomas not picked up by the competitors after the reading of the results by the jury at the
end of each audition, will be delivered by the Secretary only during the competition or in the final
concert (they will not be sent by e-mail or by post). Competitors who have not taken steps to
personally collect their certificate during the course of the competition, will no longer have any right to
claim it. Also possible scores left by competitors in the competition site can not subsequently be
claimed.

Art. 16 - The organization is not responsible for any inconvenience during the competition.

Art. 17 - In accordance with Law no. 675/96 on "Protection of Personal Data" AGIMUS declairs that
the information given in the application form will be kept and used for the sole purpose of sending
communications relating to the Competition or AGIMUS Concert Season.

Art. 18 - No juryman must present his own students or keep artistic or acquaintance relations
with the competitors in order to ensure maximum transparency in the evaluation of candidates.
The international competition was in fact created by the need primary to select the best musical talents
that will be presented to the citizens of Padova in the annual program of the prestigious International
Concert Season of the Musical Association AGIMUS of Padova, which also involves the winners of
other important and prestigious international competitions.

Art. 19 - The Application entails the acceptance, and unconditional aware of these regulations and any
amendments made by the Artistic Director. For matters not provided in these Regulations the board of
Directors has all the competences. The Art Director reserves the right to make changes of various
kinds for organizing reasons.
The jury's decision is final. The communication of the results will be read by the commission at the
end of every audition. Therefore, the competitors are personally invited to attend the reading of the
results since the secretary will not provide explanations of the opinions expressed by the jury. No
disputes are possible or the verbal or written of any kind. Otherwise, the art director will take legal
action against anyone who does not respect the jury's decision.
The art director recommend that candidates listen to the hearings of other competitors in their
category, in order to accept more calmly and objectively the jury's verdict.
Art. 20 - It is not allowed to publish on internet video recordings concerning the competition,
without the authorization of the art direction.

Art. 21 - The competition has a convention with HOTEL GRAND’ITALIA, (Corso del Popolo 81,
phone 0039 049 8761111, [email protected], in front of Padova railway station (single
room: euro 80; double room: euro 120; triple room: euro 150).
From the Hotel you can easily reach the competition site in a few minutes by metrobus in front of the
hotel.
