PROJECT GUIDELINES

(A MANUAL FOR PREPARATION OF PROJECT REPORT)


The manual is intended to provide broad guidelines to the students for the preparation of the
project report. In general, the project report should be organized in a scholarly fashion.

1. ONE COPY OF PROJECT REPORT IS REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED BY EACH


GROUP (for department library).

2. SIZE OF PROJECT REPORT:


The size of project report should be a minimum of 70 pages including references and bibliography.

3. GENERAL GUIDELINES
(i) Report should be one side printed on A4 paper.
(ii) The used paper should not be less than 80 gsm.
(iii) The report should be in hard bind.
(iv) The back and front cover of the report should be in Black Color. The title page should
be screen printed on it with golden color.
(v) The Report should be typed with 1.5 line spacing.
(vi) The Times New Roman\Arial font with 12 font size should be used.
(vii) The text should be justified aligned.
(viii) Chapter heading should be centered, bold, capital lettered in 14 font size.
(ix) Main Heading (Section) should be in 12 font bold
(x) Subsection Heading should be in 12 fonts, bold and italic.
(xi) Each chapter header left section should contain the project title
(xii) Each chapter left footer section should contain the institute name
(xiii) Each chapter footer right section should contain the page number
(xiv) The page number for all items ii to ix shown in point 4 should be done using
lower case Roman numerals and the pages thereafter (from chapter 1) should be
numbered using Arabic numerals.
(xv) The tables and figures should be introduced at the appropriate places where they are
needed and should be cited in text accordingly.
(xvi) The table\figure number should represent their chapter number with table\figure
number in chapter (Table\Figure 4.7 represents 7th table\figure of chapter 4).
(xvii) Single line spacing should be used for typing: Long Tables, Long quotations, Foot
notes, Multiline captions, References
(xviii) Equations appearing in each Chapter or Appendix should be numbered serially, the
numbering commencing a fresh for each Chapter or Appendix. Thus for example, an
equation appearing in Chapter 2, if it happens to be the eighth equation in that Chapter
should be numbered (2.8).
(xix) The references should be numbered as they are appearing in the report. As given in
section 6.10. The referred reference number should be cited in the appropriate position
as [2].
(xx) Whenever possible, the entire photograph(s) may be reproduced on a full sheet of
photographic paper.

4. ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS OF PROJECT REPORT:


The project report content should follow the following sequence:
(i) Title page
(ii) Undertaking
(iii) Certificate
(iv) Acknowledgement
(v) Table of Contents

(vii) List of Figures
(viii) List of Symbols
(ix) Abbreviations or Nomenclature (Optional)
(x) Chapters (1. Introduction, 2. Literature related to project, 3. Implementation & results,
4. Conclusion, 5. Future Scope)
(xi) Appendices
(xii) References

5. PAGE MARGIN:
Left – 1.5 inch Right – 1.25 inch
Top-1.25 inch Bottom-1.25 inch
Header – 0.5 inch Footer – 0.5 inch

6. MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION:
The prepared manuscript may be rejected if it did not follow the recommended guidelines.
Therefore, the students are advised to get approval from their supervisor. For approval they
should come with a clipped copy of manuscript on or before the pre project submission. The
supervisor may advice for the correction. After finalization the student may go for preparation
of hard bound copy.
i. Title page – A specimen copy of the title page for B.Tech project report are given in
Appendix 1.
ii. Undertaking–Declaration should be typed in the format given as in appendix 2.
iii. Acknowledgement – It should be brief and should not exceed two pages, when typed with
double line spacing.
iv. Table of contents – The table of contents should list all material contain in report as
mentioned in point 4 (From undertaking to references).
v. List of Tables –The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the
tables in the text. The page number should be mentioned to represent the position of table.
vi. List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the
figures in the text. The page number should be mentioned to represent the position of
figure.
vii. List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature – The Standard symbols,
abbreviations etc. should be used.
viii. Appendices – Appendices may be provided to give supplementary information, which
may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme under discussion.
ix. Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc.
Appendices, tables and references appearing in appendices should be numbered and
referred at appropriate places.
x. List of References – Any work of other researcher is used either directly or indirectly the
origin of the material thus referred to at appropriate places in the project report should be
indicated. A paper/book/web site should be cited as (First name, second name last name of
all authors followed by title, publication, volume, issue, page number and year of
publication.):
